The desert has its own special sort of romance, perfectly encapsulated by this boutique hotel in Tucson’s Saguaro National Park.
The Joshua Tree House (one of three similar establishments in the Western US) is a sprawling, pale clay building tucked behind the park, off one of those kind of empty, right-angle roads you see in movies.
It’s ultimately just a house, but a very well-connected house on acres of spectacular desert land.
As such, it’s less a traditional boutique hotel than an a la carte kind of vacation. You can book a private chef, cook for yourself, arrange for a massage, etc.
It’s the perfect place to cosplay extravagant wealth for a while, enjoying heated pools and private massages and your own personal chef.
It’s also the perfect place to cook for yourself and wander through cactus forests for hours. Whatever you like, you can do, and the scenery doesn’t get better than this.
Note: Availability can be tricky at The JTH, so make sure to book early.

- Number of rooms: 6 unique rooms, each with bright Arizona-inspired style.
- Cozy options: Cholla room has wood beams, fireplace, kitchenette, and detached bath.
- Spacious suites: Ocotillo Suite offers two bedrooms, tiles, and elegant design.
- Best views: Agave Suite features a private balcony with desert scenery.

- See each room in detail here
There’s a clean yet unpretentious kind of beauty to every room, which vary slightly in decor but all demonstrate the bright ease of Arizona luxury.
The Cholla room is perhaps the least lush, a cozy room with a detached (occasionally shared) bathroom.
It has the homey wood beams and kiva fireplace that you’d expect, with a gorgeous woven rug, a desk, and a kitchenette.
Your biggest choice will be the two-bedroom Ocotillo Suite, all hexagonal tiles and dark accents with warm whites and light wood furnishings.
Our personal favorite would likely be the Agave Suite, an upper-floor offering with incredible views from the private balcony.
The rest of the rooms are similar, with amenities like TVs, full kitchens or kitchenettes, balconies, fireplaces and bathtubs varying based on the room you choose.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Breakfast included: Simple in-room granola-based start to the day.
- Flexible dining: Hire a chef, use the kitchen, or grill outdoors.
- Desert leisure: Solar-heated canyon pool and hot-spring-style hot tub.
- Evening charm: Fire pit and stargazing after sunset.
There’s plenty of space to got lost, even, in the common areas, but an in-room granola-centered breakfast will be provided by the hotel.
The rest is up to you. As previously mentioned, you can snag a chef’s services for your time there, cook yourself in the chef’s kitchen or on the grills outdoors, or make your way into town whenever you feel peckish.
We personally would be careful about planning to leave the property. It will give endless reasons to stick around that are pretty hard to argue with.
First, we’ve got the canyon pool, solar heated to extend the season. The gorgeously landscaped hot tub is designed to look like a hot spring, open year round.
There’s no fitness center, we assume because everyone would prefer to get their exercise out in the park.
Once the sun goes down, light up the fire pit for some lazy stargazing.

And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
”From the moment we arrived, everything was absolutely magical. The experience matched the pictures and lived up to every promise made in the description. The location was stunning, and the entire Inn was immaculate. It had a perfect blend of romance and tranquility. The patios, rooftop deck, and dining areas were all breathtaking. Despite the communal spaces, we never felt like we were in the public eye. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with fellow guests sharing the same desire for a peaceful retreat. Every area felt private and secluded, allowing us to truly unwind and enjoy our getaway without interruption. At JTH, it really feels like you’ve stepped into another world. We’ve found our special place to celebrate anniversaries for years to come—it truly feels like a home away from home….”
”The resort is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever stayed at! Beautiful room, the communal spaces were massive and comfortable and you really feel like you are in the middle of your surroundings in Saguaro National Park. The “Hot Springs” is my new favorite hot tub!…”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”The shared bathroom of the Cholla room is a little more awkward than I expected with the communal kitchen but ultimately fine for the value/savings on room selection. Otherwise, I have zero complaints about this entire experience….”
”I wished the towels be in the bedroom. it was a bit confusing. I wished paper towels it can get messy when making coffee in that fun way and more water in the fridge please…”
