TL;DR
- Historic prestige: Opened in 1925, maintains a grand exterior and historic charm.
- Hilton Curio partnership: Offers reliable amenities, though interiors could use an update.
- Downtown location: Central Birmingham with easy access to museums, parks, and universities.
- Large property: 200-key hotel with spacious rooms and suites.

The Redmont Hotel, Birmingham, Alabama, opened in 1925, as a 200-key luxury guesthouse.
At that time, its ensuite bathrooms were the height of opulence.
Of course, as the years have progressed the hotel has undergone plenty of work, but it’s maintained a definite air of prestige.
We love the eye-catching exterior, a grand sandy brick number with wrought iron awnings.
Inside, well. We usually feel like the Hilton Curio partnership makes it easy to recommend a hotel, but we’re not convinced the chain has done the upkeep the place deserves.
It is an old building, of course, and guests should expect everything that comes with, but a zhuzh of the interiors is in order.
If you want 4-star luxury, you might want to check out one of the actual Hiltons, but none of them will have the same distinction. We wish Hilton would do more to honor it.
What are the rooms like?
- Room variety: King Singles, Queen Doubles, one-bedroom suites, oversized corner doubles.
- Decor: Simple grays and blues, minimalistic, “friend’s guestroom” vibe.
- Amenities: Coffee machines, HDTVs, radios, work areas, seating, suites with pull-out couches.
- Comfort: Reliable and functional, though interiors could use some zhuzh.

Rooms have nice variety, if not much going on in the decorative sense. They do give hotel, and not in a bad way.
It’s your friend’s guestroom, if your friend hired an interior designer on the cheap and told them to take zero risks.
No risks usually works better than bad risks, we can say, so we know you won’t be super turned off by anything.
They’re simple, all grays and blues, and basically seem a bit low-effort.
They start with King Singles, offering Queen Doubles and one-bedroom suites. There’s an oversized corner double that we would recommend to any parties of 2+.
All rooms include coffee machines, HDTVs, radios and working areas. There is usually some sort of seating, especially in the suites, which have separate living areas with pull-out couches.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Dining: Harvest Restaurant & Bar for breakfast, lunch, dinner; modern Southern cuisine with a gourmet twist.
- Quick bites: Lobby café for simple meals or coffee.
- Rooftop bar: Offers cocktails with views, needs some updates.
- Fitness: 24/7 fitness center, could use a fresh coat of paint.
There are a few places to grab food, from an easy café breakfast in the lobby to full service at the onsite restaurant.
Harvest Restaurant and Bar is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They serve modern Southern cuisine, a notably excellent option for all three meals.
It’s fine dining, which means there’s always some kind of gourmet twist. If all you want is a quick bite, head to the café in the lobby.
For simple drinks, we’ll send you up to the rooftop bar. It’s a lovely location, and there’s no beating a cocktail while the sun sets anywhere, but this is another area that could use some work.
The fitness center is similar – the 24/7 hours are great, but it could use a fresh coat of paint.
How is the neighborhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Central location: Walk to Birmingham Museum of Art, Boutwell Auditorium, Civil Rights Institute, Kelly Ingram Park.
- University access: UAB campus about 25 minutes on foot.
- Drive-required attractions: Birmingham Zoo, Botanical Gardens, Vulcan Park (~10 minutes).
The location, right in the center, needs no renovation. During the day, you’ll be able to walk to most of the city’s top attractions.
The Birmingham Museum of Art, the Boutwell Auditorium, the Civil Rights Institute, and Kelly Ingram Park are all within a 20-minute walk.
If you’ve got university business, the UAB campus is also pretty close by, about 25 minutes on foot.
Other top spots are more of a drive, like the Birmingham Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Mountain Brook.
It’s a 10-minute drive to get there, or to Vulcan Park, another major spot for anyone wanting to check out the surrounding area.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“The staff was friendly, location great, the historical features of the building are beautiful, bathrooms are really nice, the rooftop bar is nice….”
“We have stayed at several hotels in Birmingham over the past couple years but the Redmont has become our favorite stay. We had a similar great experience at another Curio property in Midtown Atlanta for my wife’s 50th Birthday. We now seek out the Curio brand when making travel plans. The proximity of the property to excellent restaurants within walking distance …..”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Couldn’t get a key to my room until the next day and the elevator kept going down and the ice machine wasn’t working on most floors….”
”There were no ice machines and no vending machines or snacks available for purchase. The room had only one trash can and it was in the bathroom….”
