- Central Canal Street location: near Manchester’s most vibrant areas.
- Contemporary loft-style interiors: with art-filled walls and open spaces.
- Full kitchens in many rooms: ideal for extended stays.
- Calm, minimalist design: that contrasts nicely with Manchester’s lively energy.

Snuggled next to the canal, right in the centre of Manchester, this old red-brick warehouse-turned-hotel is a lovely blend of classic and modern design.
It was originally built as a cotton warehouse, and it remains a part of local history, despite the new function.
Once inside, we lose the classic post-industrial for a sleek, modern take on the loft style.
It’s got a strong sense of design, with simple interiors that bring attention to art-filled walls.
It’s a cooler, more minimalist take on Manchester than the lively energy you’ll find on the streets outside.
Plenty of the rooms include full kitchens, making this a stylish space well suited for long-term stays.
What are the rooms like?
- 41 rooms: ranging from compact Life Size units to spacious duplexes.
- Minimalist design: – white walls, white linens, and striking black-and-white art.
- Large industrial-style windows: fill rooms with natural light.
- Kitchen options: available in several room categories.
- Neat, contemporary bathrooms: and practical amenities for longer stays.

Rooms are where the space feels the most impersonal, but they have a minimalist charm that will appeal to many.
Walls are white, sheets are white, ceilings are white, windowsills are stark metal.
The leather headboards add a certain handsomeness, but it’s really the windows and the art that give any sort of personality.
Art in each of the rooms is unique, usually a charming gallery of predominantly black and white prints above the bed.
Windows are gigantic, letting whatever sun you can find in the North do its best to keep things light.
There are a simple four room types, with hip names that are Different From Other Hotels.
Life Size rooms are a nice 26 square metre with king beds, and some have kitchens.
We won’t go through every option, suffice that they range from 44-95 square meters, with Twin Doubles for groups and multiple duplex options.
All options include some sort of seating/dining area, mini bars, TVs, super-cute seating and neat, contemporary bathrooms.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Two dining spaces: – Maya restaurant and the Lobby Bar.
- Maya: serves local produce with a modern twist by the canal.
- Lobby Bar: offers cocktails, coffee, and snacks from noon onward.
- No gym: but an in-room guided workout subscription is available.
- Front desk assistance: for finding gyms, spas, and nearby breakfast spots.
Facilities are mostly limited to food and drink, with two dining spaces to enjoy afternoon and night.
Maya is a brasserie-style space that sits by the canal, serving up local goodies with a contemporary flair.
It’s a chic place to spend a meal, open from noon onward, with a small break before dinner service.
Note: Maya has been closed since May 2026. We’re still waiting for news of a replacement though we’re told the Lobby Bar has expanded food operations in the meantime.
The Lobby Bar is really the place to hang, in our opinion. It’s a social hub with a solid menu of inventive cocktails, alongside coffee and snacks.
If you didn’t notice, early risers will have a bit of a challenge with the onsite dining. We’d recommend a room with a kitchen and a quick stop at the market to anyone who likes a full breakfast.
There’s no gym on site either, but there is a guided workout subscription service included in your TV.
The front desk is happy to help you find a gym, spa, breakfast joint, or anything else you can’t find at the hotel.

Day and night, you’ll find lovely scenery, fun bars, and nice restaurants.
The student influence is pretty obvious here, even if you’re a bit away from the campus proper.
The University of Manchester is a super influential part of the city, and if you have any business there you’ll find the hotel quite convenient.
It’s a 15-minute walk to the heart of the campus, the Manchester Museum and the John Rylands Library.
More touristy tourism can be had throughout the city.
The Manchester Cathedral is over closer to the Northern Quarter, but still only a 20-minute walk.
The pub next door is one of the oldest in the city.
As you go, feel free to stop into any galleries, restaurants, or boutiques that strike your fancy.
The Arndale Shopping Centre might not be high on your list of historical landmarks, but it’s a great place for a cheeky shop.
Public transport is easy and accessible if you’re not much of a trekker.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Other than the excellent service from the hotel staff (who were truly fantastic), the hotel itself totally rocks! My pals and I loved the stylish setting and the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere throughout. The coffee was great, and we really appreciated the selection of quality snacks and drinks available for purchase — a nice touch when you need a quick bite or refreshment. The lobby was also a lovely space to hang out — perfect for catching up with friends in comfort. The bedrooms were fantastic, equipped with all the facilities you could possibly need — thoughtful, modern, and super comfortable….”
“Great location near restaurants, bars and transportation. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms large and comfy. As a long-time traveler, I LOVED that there was a washer/dryer in the room (and pretty quiet, too)….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
“Breakfast was a bit of a disaster for various reasons which is why not rated excellent, otherwise it would have been excellent….”
“A little noisy on the weekend, but not terrible….”
