Monarchical bootlickers rejoice!
This Royal Family-adjacent boutique hotel in Kensington grants something of a peek into London high, high society.
Even if you’re not charmed by the pomp and circumstance of publicly funded layabouts, this hotel’s unwavering support of everyone’s inner layabout is hard not to enjoy.
The building is stunning, unsurprisingly. We’re talking the ultimate and red-and-white Victorian brick, perched on the corner by Kensington Gardens.
Being this close to Queen Victoria’s former digs makes everyone on their best behaviour.
The service at the hotel is phenomenal, the amenities plush. With all sorts of beautifully preserved architectural elements, the Victorian sensibility is strong.
Yet, there’s a modernised feel to the place that, in our opinion, pushes the elegance towards something timeless.
While we’ll happily engage with critiques of the locale, it’s hard to imagine someone who wouldn’t enjoy the Milestone’s sophisticated comfort.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 56 individually designed spaces.
- Distinct design: Ranges from garden plaids to marble and velvet.
- Entry level: Queen Singles (20–24 m²), some with park views.
- Suites: Maximalist décor, spacious layouts, and nightly canapés.
- See each room in detail here
Without a large army of guest rooms to furnish, the hotel has spent ample time perfecting each one.
It certainly shows in the attention to detail, the soft luxuriousness, and the calm luxury that characterize the rooms.
Decor varies, ranging from garden-party plaids to marble bathrooms to emerald velvets.
Queen Singles are the base level, followed by Twin Doubles and King Singles that include small seating areas.
They range from 20-24 square meters, some options including views of the park.
Suites fall more into the realm of opulent. The lean into maximalism makes them, in our opinion, slightly less charming in decor.
In amenities, space and luxury, however, they’re still top-notch.
Think full seating areas, bathtubs, drinks from a constantly re-filling minibar, nightly canapés, and more.
It might still fall short of the standards of The Old Lady, but we still think you’re going to feel pretty queenly.
Whatever you choose, you’ll enjoy bespoke linens, marble bathrooms, robes and slippies, desks, TVs, and nightly turndown service.

Dining is a lovely affair, held in a series of gorgeous spaces.
Cheneston’s is basically exactly what you’d expect a restaurant called Cheneston’s to be. It’s full of mahogany, there’s a fireplace, and you’re eating upscale English fare.
It’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For your Afternoon Tea, there’s a truly stunning lounge that’s at least 50% velvet.
The natural light through the leaded windows almost makes the whole space glow.
Finally, Stables Bar is the spot for a cheeky whiskey. Full of chic leather and all the horse paintings our writers at 14 could ever dream of, it’s also got a menu of small plates and la-dee-dah bar snacks.
For the part of your body that isn’t your stomach, the Milestone offers an in-house Health Club.
The gym is small but sweet, paired with an infrared sauna, plunge pool, and a nice selection of treatments curated by their expert in-house therapist.
Other options for private dining and event rentals are available as well.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Royal setting: Overlooks Kensington Palace and Gardens.
- Cultural hub: Close to the Royal Albert Hall and major museums.
- Green spaces: Walk through Hyde Park to Buckingham Palace.
- Nearby areas: Notting Hill, Chelsea, and Earl’s Court all close.
- Transport: Buses frequent; Tube 15 minutes’ walk past the palace.
This is a spot tailored-made for our Royal history junkies, with good old Queen Victoria & co visible in every nook and cranny.
Kensington Palace is walking distance. Kensington Gardens can be your morning walk.
Also in walking distance are the Royal Albert Hall, Victoria & Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum, and plenty more.
It’s really the parks that’ll make your holiday here though.
Normally, we’d never council you to trek the 45 minutes to Buckingham Palace, but in this case you’ll be strolling through Hyde Park to get there.
If you like to wander, check out the Notting Hill poshery, head south to Chelsea, or the occasionally more down-to-earth Earl’s Court.
Only buses are super accessible in terms of public transport, but we’ll assume you’re on taxi level if you’re staying here.
If not, the 15-minute walk to Queensway takes you right past the palace, so who’s complaining?
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“The location is excellent. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They really went out of their way to help and give advice on restaurants, shopping, directions etc. The hotel is spotlessly clean, I commented to my husband that it actually sparkles. The shower was so good!! Breakfast was delicious and served in such an elegant setting. …..”
“Best hotel in the UK….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Cooked breakfast wasn’t great, and at £50 per head…you expect it to be the greatest cooked breakfast you’ve ever eaten….”
”The glass bottles in the shower terrified I’d drop one and it would break causing injury…..”
