TL;DR
- Elegant base: A freshly renovated Geneva boutique hotel set in a grand historic mansion.
- Smart luxury: Polished four-star comfort with friendlier rates than many nearby five-stars.
- Family-aware: Thoughtful touches for kids without tipping into resort territory.

Longemalle is a fresh, luxurious Geneva boutique hotel in a grand old mansion house worthy of a lakeside setting.
It doesn’t have the lakeside setting though it does have the lake (and great lake views from the rooftop), and the lovely Jardin Anglais just up the street.
It’s very much luxury hotel but just short of 5 star too. Both these factors make Longemalle’s rates, relatively speaking for Geneva, very reasonable.
The building was completely renovated in 2019, and inside you have handsome, straightforward furnishings, and friendly, well trained staff.
Hotel Longemalle promotes itself as more family friendly than most, though it’s too small to have a dedicated kids club.
Kids do though receive a welcome pack with a soft toy, coloring book, crayons, and a tablet with games.
What are the rooms like?
- Room count: 54 modern rooms and suites.
- Understated style: Sleek, practical interiors that prioritise comfort over flash.
- Family options: Triplexes and connecting rooms work especially well for groups.
Rooms are not winning any design awards; things are sleek and modern, but nothing more.
Rather than feeling bland, however, this is in line with the practical luxury atmosphere of the place.
They’ve avoided the pitfall of a beige/white colour scheme, and the classic furnishings are more simple than boring.
Individual rooms are definitely on the small side, starting at 15 square metres.
Classics are more practical, and Superior Rooms are downright spacious. Many of Hotel Longemalle’s rooms adjoin for connecting suites.
Yet, it’s the Triplexes that really feel like the family rooms. They house two adults and two children, and have separate floors for the adults and children.
They’d also be great for a group, with a kitchenette on one floor and a gorgeous terrace with views.
Whatever you choose, amenities are solid, with every room offering a TV, minibar, climate control, and views to either the lake or an interior courtyard.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Wine-led dining: Refined meals beneath stained glass at Restaurant de la Cigogne.
- Casual options: All-day drinks and light bites at the bar and terrace.
- Levantine highlight: Standout Lebanese flavours at the popular Balila.
You can enjoy fine wines under the stained-glass ceiling of Restaurant de la Cigogne. It’s a lovely little space with a seasonal menu.
More casual fare can be found on the street level. Place Longemalle’s Bar and Terrace is all-day appropriate.
Enjoy a quick spritz in the afternoon or a cheeky nightcap on your return.
The more adventurous of the group will adore Hotel Longemalle’s most notable restaurant, Balila.
The bright space is operated by a Lebanese chef who has created an excellent menu of Levantine favourites.
As with many a small boutique hotel, that’s about it for facilities. There are common areas, and they’re delightfully decorated.
Plants and nicely curated artwork make for a stylish, comfortable space.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Old Town core: Steps from Geneva’s historic centre and key landmarks.
- Lake access: Easy walks to the waterfront, ferries, and bridges.
- Well placed: Most attractions are reachable on foot within minutes.
Geneva’s Old Town is a relatively pedestrian-friendly space, and you’ll be able to pop right out the front door into the centre of it all.
Place du Port is a breath away, a monument sat between you and the city’s main waterways.
Cross the road to Pont du Mont-Blanc and it will take you to the other side of the city.
Or, just continue on to the lakeside. Genève ferry terminal is less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
In the other direction, you’ll find almost all attractions within a 15-minute walk. Many, like the the cathedral, are an easy 5.
Hop over to the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices for some theatre, or to the University if you have business there.
The only part of the city that is a bit bar is the Avenue of the Flags, with the UN buildings surrounding it.
Of course, CERN’s and the Science Gateway are decidedly out of town. It takes under an hour to get there and is near the equally interesting Botanic Garden.
Combine these with a UN tour and you’ve got a full day on the other side of the city to keep you busy.
