If you’re looking for the ultimate Geneva boutique hotel experience, and therefore one with much grand history thrown in, this 1865 era landmark is hard to beat.
Though it rose to fame as the Beau Rivage brand’s very first hotel, Geneva’s Beau-Rivage is, confusingly maybe, but long story short, currently independent, which we love.
Though it’s really not like we’re looking at an underdog here.
This is a hotel that’s devoted over 150 years to perfecting the art of hospitality, and they’re not afraid to show it.
We’re talking real 5-star Swiss opulence, and just endless elegance.
It’s where they might film the scene where Anastasia meets her grandmother in the live-action version of the musical, which should be out as soon as AI perfects talking bats.
Or, we could just dramatise any of the dramatic history that actually occurred here.
Beau-Rivage is a hotel with a lot of historical importance, and though the brand has broadened since, without it, Beau Rivage will always be closely associated with Geneva.
What are the rooms like?
- Rooms: 95 individually styled spaces rooted in Belle Époque elegance.
- Spacious: layouts start from 30 m², with suites reaching palatial proportions.
- Luxurious: furnishings, jewel tones, and consistent high-end amenities throughout.

None of that Beau-Rivage Geneva history is forgotten in the rooms.
This isn’t a stereotypical mix of contemporary chic and old-world glamour. This is a light dusting of modern creature comforts sewn into the lining of old-fashioned opulence.
It’s a more or less Belle Epoque vibe that matches the building beautifully.
Furnishings are delicately carved, lavishly stuffed, or both.
They’re done up in a combination of soft creams and jewel tones. Garnet-dark pinks, velvety amethysts, and glowy topazes set off buttery yellows and ivories.
Guestrooms range from Deluxe to Prestige, with varying views, and at least 30 square metres of space.
We like an apartment-style space, so the Junior Suites are our sweet spot.
At 50 square metres, they’re not terrifyingly huge, but have plenty of room and a residential vibe.
We will specify that there’s no real kitchen, and note that we’d go for a panoramic lake view every time.
Suites range from close to junior to impossibly plush, with the Royal Suite boasting almost 200 square metres of tapestry-coated, spa-bathroomed glory.
It’s worth noting that the architecture is on the older side, and all rooms will vary a bit.
Regardless of layout, you’ll enjoy the same basic amenities in all. Each room boasts a mini bar, Nespresso machine, smart TV, individual climate control, and a working area.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Fine: dining anchored by Michelin-starred Le Chat Botté.
- Varied: options include casual café dining, brunch, and a deep wine cellar.
- Polished: facilities include a rooftop terrace, bar, fitness centre, and elite concierge.
Rooms are great, but the key to such top-notch hospitality usually lies in the common areas.
You’ll have multiple chances to experience outstanding service, helpful-to-the-point-of-omniscience concierge services, and incredible food.
Multiple restaurants make up the common areas, starting with one of the city’s crown jewels of dining, Le Chat Botté.
This is the place for award-winning contemporary European cuisine.
Then there is the less formal, Rivage Cafe.
Here, you can get a sense of the former restaurant’s excellence but in a more casual setting.
A superb brunch and extensive wine cellar round out your dining options.
There is also the rooftop terrace to be enjoyed. It has, as you might expect, tremendous views over Lake Geneva.
A relaxed lobby bar and a fitness centre pretty much round out the facilities, then.
The concierge services at Beau Rivage are among the best in the city, it can also be pointed out.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Lakeside: position directly opposite Jet d’Eau on Quai du Mont Blanc.
- Walkable: access to the Old Town, parks, and main transport links.
- Connected: routes to the UN buildings, gardens, and ferry terminal.
The location does help, we can admit. You’ll be well ready to forgive a lack of exercise facilities when you realise how easy it is to access the lakefront.
Who is even half interested in a treadmill when you could run around that?
But we digress. Beau-Rivage Geneva sits on the famous Quai du Mont Blanc, opposite Jet d’Eau.
The long way around Parc Mon Repos up to the Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques is at your fingertips.
This means easy access to the UN Buildings too, if you’re keen for a tour.
If you’re at the Beau Rivage level of fancy, maybe you’ve even got business there?
It’s less than a 10-minute walk to the train station, and even less if you opt for a ferry ride.
The Old Town is another quite easy walk, where you’ll find plenty of museums, cute shops, and atmospheric streets.
To visit CERN and the Large Hadron Collider, or other more out-of-the-way spots, you can organise a car with the concierge.
