Lydmar is a luxury Stockholm boutique hotel with a more relaxed take on things than you may be used to.
Lydmar embodies luxury lifestyle more than luxury hotel.
You have the utmost in quality and comfort here, but it deliberately drops many hallmarks.
No uniformed bellboys, marble hallways or stiff professionalism.
That’s not to say the hotel doesn’t feel rich. It certainly does.
They simply favour the vibes that go with sleek leather and black and white photography; recording studio vibes we might say.
At Lydmar, guests wander around casually, meet with friends, get some work in, or just enjoy the atmosphere.
If, when you’re paying high-end hotel prices, you want a classic high-end hotel experience, this might be too informal.
If you want to feel stylish and current in a fresh, informal space, though, you can’t do better than this in central Stockholm.

Rooms at Lydmar have the same handsome elegance as the rest of the hotel.
The elegance of the plush rugs (not carpets!) and leather couches is tempered by edgy artwork and fuzzy throw pillows with just the right amount of irreverence.
The atmosphere is the perfect level of sophistication without ever being boring.
Classic Kings are billed for short-term stays, but in our opinion, you could comfortably spend more than a couple of nights there.
Yet, we’d never stop you from upgrading. Medium Kings start at 35 square feet of glamour.
X Large Kings are basically one-room luxury suites, with 70 square metres of open-concept living room, working area, and bedspace.
Of course, each room is different, so if you have any special requests, always check with the hotel.
Some rooms have superb views of the harbour, others stunning sculptural light fixtures, others bathtubs, you get the idea.
Every room has soft linens, locally-sourced mini bars, Nespresso machines, and robes and slippies.

- Outdoor spaces: Seasonal Terrace and year-round Patio for casual drinks and dining.
- Bar scene: Stylish lobby bar for cocktails, snacks and lively atmosphere.
- Events: Jazz brunches and music performances add a social cultural vibe.
- Wellness: Complimentary nearby fitness centre and discounted spa access.
Breakfast is included in your room rate, and can be taken in your apartment-sized suite or the hotel Dining Room.
The Dining Room follows the lifestyle brand vibe, a casual place designed like a go-to New York hangout.
The Central Perk of the Stockholm boutique hotel scene, if you will.
You’ve got leather chairs and comfy couches and all the nice things.
For something a little fresher, head to The Terrace on the second floor. It’s a lovely outdoor place open seasonally.
If it’s winter, head to The Patio. It’s the year-round outdoors space, a little less secluded than The Terrace, but excellent for a casual beer or two.
Also great for a casual beer, wine, or cocktail is The Bar. It’s a classic lobby bar best for drinks, snacks, and spending time with the cool kids.
Weekends offer Jazz Brunch, and there are occasional music events to enjoy. Check with the staff for details; they’re very hip.
Fitness buffs have complimentary access to the Grand Hotel Fitness Centre, less than a block away.
The Grand Hotel Spa is also accessible at a discounted rate.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Waterfront spot: Across from Strömkajen ferry terminal with easy transport links.
- Museums: Near National Museum, Moderna Museet, ArkDes and ABBA Museum.
- Historic areas: Walking distance to Gamla Stan, Royal Palace and cultural landmarks.
- Exploring: Easy access to Södermalm nightlife and elegant Östermalm districts.
You’re in a very good location at Lydmar as well. Right across the street from the Strömkajen ferry terminal, and next door to the National Museum of Fine Arts.
The road from there heads out to the next little islet of Skeppsholmen, home of a couple of other top museums: the Moderna and the Arkdes Museum of Design and Architecture.
Even more Museums (ABBA, anyone?) can be found to the east, via boat at Allmänna Gränd or coming south from Östermalm.
You’re a short walk to Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town, and the city’s cutest, quaintest parts.
Lydmar Hotel is also within walking distance of the Royal Palace and a handful of museums.
This includes the Nobel Prize Museum, the Jewish Museum, and a few art galleries.
If you want something super lively and less quaint, you might want to be closer to Södermalm, but really, it’s still just a half-hour walk through the lovely colourful houses of Gamla Stan.
Posh Östermalm is closer, an easy 20-minute stroll through parks and past The Hallwyl Museum, the Army Museum, and plenty of drama theatres.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“The rooms are uniquely warm and homely. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Mandaline that works at the restaurant is absolutely fantastic. It’s like she reads one’s mind. When you think of coffee, she asks and brings you coffee. Overall, It was a magical experience. I wished I came to Stockholm for vacation and not business….”
“The location, the design, the staff, the food – all inspired. We loved this hotel. Beautiful boutique hotel that exceeded all of our expectations. Front desk staff were so friendly and very helpful….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Minor things- some noise from bottle/bin pick up lorries on some mornings, bathroom towels are thin, a la carte breakfast needs you to request rather than staff pro-actively asking….”
”Last year restaurant food was more tasty, may be they changed the chief….”
