Ett Hem (a home in Swedish) is a very grand, upscale house turned laidback luxury, boutique hotel.
If you’re one to watch your wallet, we think the prices might raise an eyebrow, especially with the relatively limited facilities.
But, it is Stockholm, and nobody said it would be cheap.
The house is just stunning from the inside out. It’s a turreted brick situation on the corner of a quiet street in North Östermalm.
Yet, we’d hesitate to call it opulent. Ett Hem is marketedly light on ostentation and heavy on the personal touch.
Instead of the Our Hotel Is Fancy kind of atmosphere which pervades many luxury hotels, Ett Hem goes with: This is Your Hem.
The home in question is, of course, full of hand-picked luxuries and impeccably designed and decorated.
Muted colours make for sophistication, floofy couches for comfort.
Sunlight hitting the plants as they rustle in the breeze on the balcony adds cinematic flourish.
Revel in your main character relaxing at home energy for as long as you can afford.
What are the rooms like?
- 22 rooms: Split between two elegant townhouse buildings
- Size range: 16sqm doubles up to spacious attic suites
- Subtle luxury: Calm neutrals with plush textures and fireplaces
- Comfort perks: Rain showers, cocktail cabinets and cosy workspaces

While originally confined to one house, Ett Hem’s rooms are now spread out between two different townhouses.
They range from 16 square metre double rooms to a 70 square metre Attic Suite with an open fireplace.
Deluxe room options are heavy on the space, while Suites add a bit more indulgence, featuring bathtubs, sitting areas, and king-sized beds.
As with the rest of the hotel, the luxury here is subtle and understated, but ever-present.
There’s a white-meets-beige colour scheme that we’d normally mock, but here it’s cut by plush navy headboards, slate-grey pouffes and cheerful houseplants.
In the end, the style is more Greta Garbo than Gwyneth Paltrow, imbued with enigmatic yet accessible flair.
And sure, we all want to get out of our windowside soaking tubs to dry off in front of a happily burning fire, but we’re pretty sure you’ll be happy with whatever option you choose.
Even the simplest rooms have working areas, TVs, cocktail cabinets, rain showers, and plush robes to lounge around in.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Seasonal dining: Guest-focused fixed menus and communal meals
- Relaxed spaces: Library lounges and homely sitting areas
- Wellness extras: Gym, yoga shala and personalised guest services
Breakfast is served in the on-site dining areas, exclusive to guests.
Everyone is invited for lunch and dinner, locally-minded affairs where you sit down and eat what is given to you, hem style.
Four-course weekend lunches give way to fixed menu dinners with optional wine pairings.
Weekday lunches are slightly less lavish, but no less satisfying. You can pop an extra course or dessert onto the experience if you want something a little more special.
Other common areas include a fabulous library and plenty of sitting areas that make the house feel like a home.
The gym, too, looks far too homely to be taken seriously at first glance, but it’s very well equipped.
You’ll be climbing stairs next to a lovely collection of houseplants, and gazing serenely out at the garden.
For even more serenity, there’s a yoga shala with regular classes that feels like it could be its own studio.
Any other needs, just mention them to the staff, and they’ll be met.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Quiet setting: Leafy embassy district in upscale Östermalm
- Local feel: Residential streets ideal for relaxed strolls
- Further sights: Old Town, museums and Södermalm require transport
- Upscale charm: Elegant surroundings with calm city atmosphere
North Östermalm definitely isn’t a location for EASY sightseeing. You’re a Stockholm local up here; you don’t do that sort of stuff.
The old town of Gamla Stan will be a 15-minute drive, and the many museums of Skeppsholmen about the same. The lively Södermalm will be even further.
But the neighbourhood is lovely. It’s classic upscale, leafy residential, and home to most foreign embassies in the city.
So not central, no real sights, but a daily flaneur around a neighbourhood like Östermalm, sure has its charms.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“One of the best hotels we have stayed in. Unlike anything else. The hotel alone, a reason to come back to Stockholm.
Not only beautiful design at every turn by Ilse Crawford, with so many nooks and places to rest and read books or relax. the generosity at every level is extraordinary – products and amenity, flowers, candles, fragrance & beauty. Nothing was too much of an ask of staff who were amazing at anticipating your every need….”
“The team at Ett Hem are second to none, and they reached out ahead of my arrival to find out if I had any specific requirements. While staying there, they make every effort to make you feel at home, and the hotel is as beautifully designed and gorgeous as its reputation. And the food is absolutely divine. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”A tiny request: hardcover edition of the IHT would tick my remaining box….”
”Nothing…”
