BRACH Madrid on Gran Via, is an iconic building on an iconic street. It’s all sweeping white stone covered in carvings and filled with luxury antiques.
BRACH, of course, is a French brand, born in Paris, but slowly pushing rhizomes through the streets of Western Europe’s favourite capitals (next up: Rome).
But, that’s not the only connection.
This 1922 building was built over the house where Victor Hugo spent a brief spell as a child.
BRACH Madrid is rich yet homey, as unpretentious as a 5-star hotel with a fabulous onsite spa and restaurant can ever be.
That is to say, we’ve seen homier, and better value, but we appreciate what they’re doing here.
They overall style is handsome, on the masculine side, but small touches of delicate flair keep things feeling light and curated.
What are the rooms like?
- Rooms: 57 rooms and suites, each layered with travel-inspired character.
- Design: Leather headboards, bespoke wallpaper, and floor-to-ceiling windows.
- Comfort: Spacious layouts with high-end tech and quietly luxurious bathrooms.

Rooms are perhaps the best example of BRACH Madrid’s charm. They are mostly the same, we admit, but altogether unique enough that you’ll feel special regardless.
We’re talking leather headboards, bespoke travel-happy wallpaper, and absolute stunners of floor-to-ceiling windows.
Collections of random artifacts decorate full-wall bookcases. The spaces at BRACH Madrid have ‘I travel’ written all over them.
Rooms start at 25 square metre Superior offerings. This is a comfortable amount of space, for a historical building especially, yet rooms get larger and more cushy with every upgrade.
Executive options feature bathtubs, super chic couches, and some pretty lovely views.
Suites are named individually, each completely unique. We especially love those with terraces, furnished as they are with super-cute pastel daybeds.
Yet even the most basic at BRACH Madrid are well-stocked with top-notch amenities.
All rooms feature excellent tech, with HDTVs, radios, and climate control. Seating and bathrooms are sneakily luxurious.
For example, the unique mirror frames in the bathroom offer an alternative sort of poshness to the typical luxury hotel floor-to-ceiling marble.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Restaurant: A lively open-kitchen space serving refined Mediterranean cuisine.
- Breakfast: A well-loved morning spread plus a tempting onsite pâtisserie.
- Wellness: Full spa with pool, sauna, hammam, and holistic treatments.
The onsite restaurant has the same cabinet of curiosities vibe as the rooms, this time with everything behind glass in a shining dining room full of bustle.
Restaurant BRACH Madrid’s open-kitchen concept keeps things contemporary, while ingredients and dishes speak to centuries of delicious pan-Mediterranean tradition.
We know there are plenty of restaurants in Madrid to visit, but we don’t think you’ll regret a cheeky round of tapas onsite.
Breakfast is well-loved and worth it.
If you’re not one for a big morning meal, check out the pâtisserie. We’re sure you’ll find something worth a little AM indulgence.
And, of course, the luxury doesn’t stop there. The hotel features a full spa with a pool, sauna, and hammam.
A long list of treatments follows a philosophy deeply dedicated to both holistic wellness and the good, old-fashioned pamper.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Central: Steps from Sol, Gran Vía attractions, and major transport links.
- Sightseeing: Walkable to Plaza Mayor, Palacio Real, and Campo del Moro.
- Variety: Easy access to calmer, trendier districts like Malasaña and Salamanca.
For a first-time visitor, BRACH Madrid’s location can’t be beat. It’s directly across the street from the famously touristy neighbourhood of Sol.
And even if you’re here regularly, it’s super convenient to many of Madrid’s main attractions.
Plaza Mayor is a 15-minute walk, with Puerta del Sol an easy on-the-way detour.
Once you’re headed in that direction, it’s only a bit further to Palacio Real and Campo del Moro.
If you prefer to keep your feet rested for some nighttime dancing, the Gran Via metro stop is less than a block away.
Once you’ve experienced the magic of the centre for the first time, though, the area as a whole can feel a bit more chaotic than it’s worth.
If that’s the case, you’re on the right side of Gran Via.
Just north are the trendy, though calmer, neighbourhoods of Malasaña, Salamanca, and Chamberí.
Malasaña is great for nightlife, perhaps not ideal if you have little ones in tow.
The other neighbourhoods have a more local vibe, with outstanding restaurants, upscale shopping and calmer nightlife.
