TL;DR
- Design-led: A moody, contemporary boutique hotel with strong ties to Barcelona’s creative scene.
- Atmosphere: Artsy, independent, and quietly cool rather than classic or formal.
- Adults-only: A refined hideaway best suited to couples and solo travellers.
- Location: Set on the edge of the Gothic Quarter, close to culture, nightlife, and the sea.

This super-hip boutique on the edge of the Gothic Quarter has enough artsy cool for all of Barcelona.
Collaboration with local cultural players makes for a city-born style.
Of course, with Barcelona as a leader in European elegance, it’s doesn’t promise something super unique.
Yet, the Wittmore kind of is. It has an independent, moody, contemporary style, that we don’t see often.
Not much old-world finery to be found here too, and that’s not an issue.
Even if the staff aren’t following you around with a dinner jacket, they’re ready to help with the smallest of issues.
What are the rooms like?
- Rooms: 22 rooms and suites, all designed with understated elegance.
- Style: Clean-lined spaces with dark trim, wood panelling, and artistic accents.
- Comfort: Well-equipped rooms with bathtubs, Chromecast TVs, and Marshall speakers.

Rooms at The Wittmore are refined spaces that seem perfect suited to both cheerful sunny days and sultry moonlit evenings.
They’re relatively simple, with certain touches that add plenty of personality.
Dark trim, for example, contrasts beautifully with sun streaming in through large windows.
Medieval-art inspired throw pillows hearken to the neighbourhood’s charm; wood panelling adds interest to the otherwise plain white walls.
It’s a refined elegance that honours history without feeling beholden to it.
Small rooms are aptly named, 19 square metre spaces best for snuggly couples and solo travellers.
Mediums are average for a swanky boutique, running at 23 square metres with plenty of window.
Large rooms hit almost 30, and from there you’re not allowed to complain about space, since you can’t bring your kids anyway.
We should note that windows generally face the green wall. It’s pretty, but quite close. Claustrophobics consider.
The biggest options, both Suites, have added perks like bookcases and breakfast included.
Top-level Suite includes exclusive access to the Sobreático (see below) after 11pm.
But really, you won’t be disappointed with any decision.
All rooms feature TVs with Chromecast, Marshall speakers, some kind of seating, mini bars, and bathtubs.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Dining: Three distinct food and drink spaces, from fine dining to rooftop cocktails.
- Contraban: Creative, emotion-driven menus paired with excellent local wines.
- Rooftop: Sobreático offers skyline and Mediterranean views in a romantic setting.
Food can be found in one of three places.
The first, Contraban, is a voguish testament to the emotional side of creation.
It sounds odd, but we actually love the menu, which is divided into feelings like ‘creative excitement’ and ‘frustration’.
Pair this with an excellent selection of local wines, and you’ve got a fantastic night out.
It’s also where you’ll find breakfast at the Wittmore, with a slightly more straightforward selection of à la carte options.
Celebrate the majesty of the hotel’s dramatic green wall on the Patio. It’s a lunch-evening spot with plenty of fresh air.
Finally, you can head up, up, up the stairs to Sobreático, the rooftop bar.
The rooftop also has a small, rather unnecessary looking plunge pool, and lots of comfortable seating.
It looks out towards the Mediterranean, and has enough of the Old City skyline for some sunset romanticism.
All of these places, and the weekend DJs, close up fairly early, allowing you time to hit the streets for more serious revelry.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Historic: Located in the Barri Gòtic, surrounded by culture, history, and nightlife.
- Beach-bound: Close to the sea and Barcelona’s popular beach clubs.
- Walkable: Easy access to Las Ramblas, Parc de la Ciutadella, and Plaça Catalunya.
For history, parties, and culture the Barri Gótic has some of Barcelona’s best.
The Wittmore itself is nearer to the sea side of things, meaning the top beach bars and clubs will be an easy distance.
This makes for both big fun and big crowds, so be prepared.
During the day, you’re well set for sightseeing.
A lot of the charm of the Gothic Quarter and the Old Town is just a good old wander, and you’re perfectly situated to get charmingly lost.
If you’re working with a list, La Rambla is an easy walk and well-connected to must-sees like the Mercado de la Boqueria or the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
The lovely Parc de la Cuitadella is 15 minutes in the other direction, closer to the beach.
Walkers can get to the base of Montjuic in 20 minutes.
Or, hop on the metro.
The nearest station is slightly limited, but walk the 15 minutes to Plaça Catalunya and you’ll be connected to almost everything.
