Tucked off of the busy Calle Granada in Málaga’s Centro Histórico, you’ll find this cosy collection of guest houses.
Gently wack concept lovers rejoice, Cristine Bedfor Malaga is inspired by an unwritten book from the hotel’s founder, Cristina Lozano.
It tells the tale of Christine Bedfor, daughter of the Spanish Ambassador to a fictional island off the coast of Gibraltar.
The island floats around the sea throughout the year, parked off the Málaga coast throughout the winter.
Christine is, in this iteration, a young girl experiencing the joys of travel, exploration, and her adopted country.
The hotel is peppered with references to her fictional experiences, perspectives, and heritage.
There’s a lot to be getting on with there, but you’re also more than welcome to take this hotel as just a piece of chic design.
The design is, as you might imagine from something based on a child’s brain, on the edge of maximalist, in a very charming way.
For all that conceptual whimsy, Christine Bedfor Málaga is also just well-suited to a comfortable, stylish stay in the centre of Malaga.
What are the rooms like?
- 27 rooms: Compact, charming spaces designed with bold colours and textures.
- Craftsmanship: Bespoke Bassols linens and vintage-inspired décor create a dream-bedroom vibe.
- Small but stylish: Rooms range from 14–25 m² but maximise vintage charm and comfort.
- Thoughtful extras: Tubs in many rooms, workspaces, minibars, and soft touches like beach bags.
- See each room in detail here
You might worry that rooms at Cristine Bedfor would wax a bit childish, but never fear.
They’re rather sophisticated in style, decked out in bespoke linens produced by European textile masters Bassols.
We’re talking charming stripes with boldly coloured walls with vintage-style wall hangings.
We won’t sugarcoat; rooms are not large.
Singles are a super-snug 14 square metres, and none of the rooms go much over 25.
If you can handle a cosy space, however, each room absolutely overflows with charm.
We’re not sure if it’s the colours, the textures, or everything together, but they approach dream bedroom status.
They’ve managed to fit little tubs into many of the bathrooms, offering working areas and minibars as well.
Soft touches like unforgettable towels, beach bags and shopping totes make you feel like your mom is right down the hallway.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Included breakfast: A generous selection of cold, warm and hot dishes.
- All-day dining: La Cocina de Christine serves traditional cuisine with modern touches.
- Home-style comfort: Stylish but still warm and personal to match the hotel’s concept.
- Guesthouse simplicity: Minimal facilities, but excellent staff support.
Breakfast is included with the room, full of cold, warm, and hot items, sure to start your day off well.
The onsite restaurant, La Cocina de Christine, is open all day, offering a small snacks menu between breakfast and lunch.
It’s super-chic, but the Cristine Bedfor people have done a nice job of making things feel just a bit homey to fit into the concept of the hotel.
Cuisine is traditional with modern twists that keep it feeling fresh. The kitchen doesn’t have the same focus on cocktails and wine lists as another boutique might, but it’s by no means deficient.
As a Guesthouse in name and fact, there’s not much else going on.
Common areas are whimsical and lovely to spend time in, but it’s not a luxury boutique, and you’re on your own for fitness and pampering.
The Cristine Bedfor Malaga staff are excellent and happy to help you find or book any of these services.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Centro Histórico: Lively, youthful area full of dining, culture and shopping.
- Close to major sights: Minutes from Málaga Park, Alcazaba, and key cultural attractions.
- Beach access: Malagueta Beach is a 15-minute walk; Huelin is calmer and 30 minutes away.
- Art districts: Centre Pompidou and CAC Málaga both walkable.
The neighbourhood is also on the side of chaotic, youthful fun.
Malaga’s Centro Historico is the main drag for tourists, fun-havers and shoppers, and you’re not far from any of it.
You do have the benefit of being towards the outskirts, minutes from Málaga Park, Alcazaba, and other attractions that draw more cultural folk than partiers.
This also means you’re quite close to Malagueta Beach. 15 minutes and your Cristine Bedfor beach bag will get you to your sunning spot on foot.
If you’d rather something a bit more local, Huelin Beach is a smidge calmer, just over half an hour on foot.
Cultural attractions are also within walking distance. You’ll find Centre Pompidou Málaga near Malagueta. CAC Málaga sits 20 minutes from the hotel in Soho, the city’s Arts District.
Castillo de Gibralfaro is within a half-hour walk, with a bit of an incline but nothing too horrible.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Cristine Bedfor is in a great location, with nearby shops, restaurants and tourist attractions all within walking distance. For eg: Picasso Museum. The hotel is new, so everything is beautiful, freshly painted and decorated with quirky items of furniture The staff are very attentive and friendly. They handwrote a lovely birthday note for my daughter’s birthday and gifted her a tote bag. Breakfast can be made to order….”
“This is the epitome of what a boutique hotel should be. Small, charming, unique. Wikipedia should have Cristine Bedfor Malaga pictures on their ’boutique hotels’ page.
The building itself (XIX century) is beautiful and the interior decoration is outstanding. You take one step in and you are in a different world; you take one step out and you are in the centre of the old Malaga. Literally a minute from the Picasso Museum (or from the OXO, Video Games Museum, if that is your hobby), a few minutes or less from the Cathedral or from the Roman Theatre. The location cannot be better.
The room and bathroom décor is superb. The towels elegant; the toiletries of good quality; it is all very pleasant.
The food was delicious and so healthy, both breakfast and a la carte dinner. The breakfast, you can have it a la carte, too, or from a small buffet with all the products really fresh and tasty.
And most importantly, the overall service was exquisite and the whole team friendly, helpful and smiling. We had a great stay!…”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Our room was lovely but one or two additions would have helped. There was nowhere to hang coats other than the wardrobe. Also the bedside tables were lovely but not particularly practical given their sloping sides. A small gripe I know. I appreciate the aesthetic of the designer’s viewpoint but at the end of the day it is a hotel. Also breakfast service was good but the buffet wasn’t exceptional. Far better options locally available for less money….”
”In the center, but a little small!…”
