TL;DR
- Luxury retreat,: half boutique hotel, half luxury resort in style.
- Standout design: combining contemporary urban with rural & historic.
- Ideal for golfers: but equally rewarding for non-golfers seeking relaxation.
- Extensive amenities: including pools, spa, beach club, tennis, padel, and fine dining.
- Beautiful setting: in a tranquil pocket of the Costa del Sol.

Finca Cortesin is a stylish, rural boutique retreat an hour from Malaga.
Golf is a major focus here, but for those who don’t partake, you’ve still got a full-on upmarket resort, one of the best on the Costa del Sol, to be getting on with.
We’re talking pools, fine dining and drinking, padel, tennis, spa facilities, private beach club – the works.
It’s a historic, traditional finca, nicely refreshed with a more contemporary, urban sophistication.
White walls and lush green plants surround sunny spaces filled with rich wood and charming patterns.
It’s all very relaxing, even just to look at.
Golf or no golf, Finca Cortesin is a place designed to please – a quintessential luxury Costa del Sol escape.
What are the rooms like?
- 67 suites: all spacious, stylish, and richly decorated.
- Bold boutique style: with prints, woods, colours, and personality.
- Large layouts: with even entry-level suites offering generous space.
- Variety of suite types: including family, pool, and executive options.
- Luxury details: like Travertine marble, rain showers, fruit, and flowers.

For a place that reads snobby resort on so many levels, Finca Cortesin stops your assumptions at the door.
We must admit, we expected that boring minimalist deluge of beige, gray, and white, and were happy to be mistaken.
Walls are white, sure, but they’re accented with dark woods, super-chic printed curtains, bold shapes and colours that occasionally leak into the wallpaper.
It’s full-on boutique hotel decor in a golf resort, and we’re into it.
We also love a good suites-only establishment, and the smallest options here are 50 square metre beauties with bathrooms the size of a quaint historical guestroom.
Other suites vary in style and purpose.
The Family Suite is a two-bedroom with cherry-red accents, Pool Suites feature private terraces with plunge pools, and the Executive a comically large bathroom and superb Mediterranean views.
All suites at Finca Cortesin feature rain showers (most bathtubs), Travertine marble bathrooms, TVs, minibars, and more.
Fresh fruit and fresh cut flowers are the perfect complementary touches.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Multiple dining options: including Spanish, Asian, and Italian cuisine.
- Beach club: offering food, drinks, and a stylish seaside setting.
- Beautiful bars: like the atmospheric Blue Bar for tapas and cocktails.
- Active facilities: including gym, tennis, pilates, and of course golf.
- Top-notch spa: with saltwater pool, yoga, and extensive treatments.
You’ll start the day with an à la carte breakfast at the onsite El Jardín de Lutz.
They’re also open for dinner, serving upscale traditional Spanish cuisine.
They’re not alone, though. There’s the Finca Cortesin signature Asian cuisine at REI, an outpost of Madrid’s Italian Don Giovanni, and an expansive, private beach club just a kilometre away.
Our favourite, at least for ambiance, is the Blue Bar.
It’s just the lobby bar, in the way that the Mediterranean is just a sea.
Delicately painted walls surround rich furnishings where you can dig into your favourite tapas.
Pair these with a classic vintage cocktail and you’ve got yourself an evening.
The rest of the time can be spent in activity or extreme relaxation, your choice.
On one side, we’re looking at a full-service gym, tennis, beach games, pilates, and, of course, golf.
On the other side, there’s a spa that will make you wonder if you’ve been transported to Koh Samui.
It features a heated saltwater pool surrounded by columns and sunlight, a yoga centre, and a long list of treatments.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Quiet location: ideal for relaxation and exploration by car.
- Close to coastal towns: like Estepona, Marbella, and Benalmádena.
- Beaches and nature: with reserves and national parks nearby.
- Caseres Beach: just minutes away for easy seaside trips.
- Good for day trips: including Málaga and Gibraltar within an hour.
Finca Cortesin can arrange various tours of the area but if you’re keen to explore yourself, you’ll want a car, if only for the drive to and from the main coastal towns.
Estepona, Marbella, and Benalmádena all dot the Costa del Sol on the way up to Málaga. They’re all within an hour.
It’s all very resort-y, of course, but there are miles of gorgeous beach, wildlife refuges, and national parks on the way.
Caseres Beach is the closest, a 6-minute drive towards the sea.
From there, you can head towards Málaga or Gibraltar, also just an hour away.
Every journey on the Costa del Sol is worth an outing, but anyone in search of more activities can check out the nearby golf greens and maritime clubs.
There’s even a casino, a short detour from the Gibraltar route.
