Casa da Companhia Hotel & Spa offers history and luxury on one of Ribeira, Porto’s most charming streets; Rua das Flores.
Especially in the common areas, there is much 18th century origin grandeur to admire.
The magisterial stone columns and wrought iron facade give a handsome sheen to the entire place.
The rest of the design we find a bit incongruous, perhaps because of the hotel’s corporate connections.
It’s part of IHG’s Vignette Collection, partnered with La’Occitane in the onsite spa.
They claim to have preserved plenty of design elements, but the rooms have a decidedly contemporary style.
All in all, the feel is ‘iconic building mostly gutted by bigwigs for sleek hotel, but all the best bits are still there.’
Honestly, this isn’t rare.
And the way we see it, it’s common for a reason. Most people love the mix of top-tier modern luxury with all the architectural best bits.
And this is exactly what you get at Casa da Companhia.
What are the rooms like?
- 40 rooms: Stylish contemporary interiors with some preserved architectural elements.
- Naturally bright: Large paned windows bring in generous light throughout.
- Comfort focused: Average room sizes run 30–40 sqm with chic furnishings.
- Top pick: One-bedroom King Suite with stone features and a bathtub by the window.

As we mentioned before, rooms at Casa da Companhia are stylish, giving more 21st than 18th century.
There are some original architectural elements, and a small army of paned windows inviting all of the natural light you could want.
If you’re being generous, you could find a museum-esque quality of the room design that hints at historical preservation.
That’s about as generous as we’ll go on that front, but we’d never deny that they are chic and comfortable.
Guest rooms average 30-40 square metres, the smallest a King Single coming up at 26 metres squared. Twin Doubles and options with balconies offer some lovely views.
Suites start at kings and twins, perfect for larger groups with added beds.
The One-bedroom King Suite is the clear frontrunner, with a window-adjacent bathtub and plenty of original stone.
Whatever you choose at Casa da Companhi you’ll have IHG-approved comfort, plenty of seating, a TV, and a nicely stocked minibar.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Historic ambience: Restaurant serves traditional Portuguese dishes in a moody stone-filled setting.
- Simple breakfasts: Lighter morning offering – many guests prefer cafés outside.
- Wellness focus: Indoor pool, Turkish bath, sauna, spa, and small gym.
- Modern spa partnership: L’Occitane products and treatments elevate the experience.
You’ll get most of your historical kicks at the onsite restaurant, moodily lit and full of stone.
The fare is traditionally Portuguese, with a lavish menu that matches the hotel’s sophisticated atmosphere.
For breakfast, it’s limited, and we’d advise heading out to the city centre for some morning pastries.
Yet, there’s room service and a slightly lighter pool menu that starts at 11.
The indoor pool itself we wouldn’t define as a perfect dining area, however.
Slatted wood covers every inch, and with its proximity to the Turkish bath, sauna, and spa we find it more wellness-centre than pool party.
The spa itself is extensive and luxurious, as is the small but mighty gym.
You’re advised to book access to everything but the pool at the front desk.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Central location: Right on Rua das Flores in the lively heart of Porto.
- Walkable area: Only minutes from Ribeira, the cathedral, and cultural sites.
- Classic Porto: Winding streets, tiles, boutiques, and riverfront strolls.
- Easy access: Close to Cedofeita’s galleries and Boavista’s upscale district.
Rua das Flores isn’t deepest Ribeira, but it definitely still embodies the neighbourhood – Porto’s centre of tourism and nightlife.
The surrounding area is stimulating and exciting, if not a bit too busy at times.
This is true for most of central Porto, but Casa da Companhia’s super-central location means almost everything you need is in walking distance.
To get to the famous colourful houses of Ribeira, you only need to walk 13 minutes, the cathedral is more like 10.
And all around you’ll be able to enjoy winding streets, swathes of tile walls, boutique shops, kitschy souvenir stores, whatever you like in a city stroll.
From there, you can enjoy the Douro’s waterfront to your heart’s content.
Or, if you prefer culture with a capital C, head towards Cedofeita’s galleries or Boavista’s sophisticated commercialism.
The famous Cedofeita street and it’s hip cafés and boutiques is about a 20-minute walk to the centre.
Boavista is a bit further, but we think it’s pleasantly worth the walk nonetheless.
Taxis, rideshares and more are easily available, if you’ve got your stilettos on.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Excellent location in Porto, great breakfast, comfortable bed, room was really spacious and well equipped/designed and quiet even though it was on the 3rd floor (street level adjacent to a pizzeria); spa and gym facilities looked nice even though we didn’t have time to use them; staff were all very efficient and pleasant. Will stay there again….”
“Excellent location in the heart of the city. Which made it easy to walk everywhere. The breakfast was very nice which was both a buffet or you could order off the menu. I had a delicious avocado toast and egg. Wonderful king size suite , spacious, very comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom and shower with robes and slippers. We were so very comfortable and pampered there….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”My room, 637, lacked any place to hang a bath towel, which I thought was odd. Fantastic shower, no doubt, but then I have to walk across the entire bathroom to get my towel from the counter?…”
”Note that taxis can pick up/drop to the door, Ubers can’t pick up/drop to the door, you’d have to walk a block to a pickup point….”
