TL;DR
- Chic boutique hotel: – calm, understated take on luxury hospitality.
- Pan-European flair,: timeless Mediterranean meets Scandinavian restraint.
- Comfort first: – quietly luxurious rooms and creature comforts.
- Great for relaxation: and low-key indulgence.

Hotel das Amoreiras is a chic Lisbon boutique hotel, and a bit of a love letter to understated luxury.
It all seems very casual; there’s no opulence here, at least nothing covered in gold and brocade and stairwells that look like they were designed by Klimt.
Yet, we’ve got notes from Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Condé Nast, and others, that tell a different story – one of thoughtful dedication to creature comforts.
There’s a kind of pan-European flair at play at Hotel das Amoreiras, you could say.
We have a building that talks to you in fluent Mediterranean, a vintage James Bond behind the bar, and a sensible, Scandinavian kind of calm minimalism throughout.
If you know that less can sometimes mean more, in that Nordic way, and you want relaxing luxury without all the show, this is the spot.
What are the rooms like?
- 19 rooms: intimate rooms including Mini Deluxe and Attic Suites.
- Nordic calm: decor with quiet personality and occasional prints.
- Mini vs Deluxe: Minis are compact. Deluxe options feel roomier.
- Attic Suites: romantic, spacious from ~35 m² with balconies.
- Amenities: marble bathrooms, teas, coffees and in-room comforts.

There’s no room at Hotel das Amoreiras we don’t love, but we’ve definitely got opinions.
They all sport the calm decor of clearly Nordic inspiration, dotted with the odd print that adds just the right amount of personality.
The 14 square metre Mini Deluxe is much more mini than Deluxe, in comparison with the rest of the rooms.
Indeed, almost every room is called deluxe, so we’re not sure if it means that much.
If you’re not much for hanging out in your room, the Minis should be fine. If you like a bit of a lounge, however, we’ll steer you towards the other Deluxe options.
Neither of these are super large, either, in the way of many a hotel with appealing architecture.
They run around 20 square metres, with views of either the courtyard or the garden.
Our personal favourite options at Hotel das Amoreiras can be Deluxe or not, but they’re both up a couple of flights of stairs.
Attic Suites they are, and we, lovers of both the extravagance of a suite and the romance of an attic, are all-in.
They start at 35 square metres, so forget the little spaces and start to stretch out. The Deluxe option includes a cute balcony that will take you out into the trees.
Whatever you choose, you’ll enjoy the best of amenities, from marble bathrooms to tasty teas and coffees.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Complimentary breakfast: fruit, grains, tea and coffee each morning.
- Chic bar: green-velvet bar serving drinks and light snacks.
- Relaxed courtyard: pleasant outdoor space to unwind.
- Limited facilities: few on-site activities beyond common areas.
- Local city life: Lisbon provides ample activities nearby.
You’ll start each day at Hotel das Amoreiras with a lovely complimentary breakfast full of fruits and grains and tea and coffee.
The rest of the time, the dining area serves drinks and snacks as a super-cute bar.
It’s coated in soft green velvet, studded with wicker chairs and a sweet mirror at the back of the bar.
It’s a bit of the Parisian side of the European charm, and with the lush courtyard, there’s plenty of space to happily relax.
Unfortunately, there’s not much else in terms of facilities.
The common areas at Hotel das Amoreiras are beautiful and enjoyable, but a bit lacking in activities.
Luckily, Lisbon is a vibrant city that will keep you occupied without much effort.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Upscale Amoreiras: shopping and museums close by.
- Scenic walks: 20 min downhill to the seaside and city highlights.
- Good transport: taxis and concierge can help get you around.
- Quiet & refined: ideal for relaxation over nightlife.
- Nearby sights: 18th-century reservoir complex and Amoreiras mall.
Unluckily, Amoreiras isn’t the most vibrant area of the city, and it does take a bit of effort to get to the city’s hotspots.
If you’re looking to relax and unwind in an urban setting, though, Hotel das Amoreiras sits in the area of indulgences.
It’s an upscale neighbourhood with plenty of shopping, a handful of small museums, and more than enough fancy food.
If you don’t want to head to the opposite end of Lisbon for history, check out the 18th-century reservoir complex just two minutes away.
Super-upscale shopping mall Amoreiras is equally close, and super-posh shopping avenue Avenida da Liberdade is technically walking distance.
Bairro Alto is just under half an hour, and it’s not a bad city to wander through. Here you’ll find all the liveliness, including the majority of the city’s nightlife.
For Fado houses and romantic hills, take a cab over to Alfama.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“The hotel exceeded all expectations. The staff were very attentive. When we checked in, the lady at the reception provided a map of the city with lots of very helpful recommendations. Every detail was thought out and executed to a high standard. The housekeeping turned down our rooms in the evening, which is an expense that’s overlooked in most hotels, but very much appreciated. Santiago made great cocktails with lots of enthusiasm and we also had the opportunity to meet the owner of the hotel multiple times over our nights stay. He was extremely welcoming and you could see the passion and love he had for the hotel. The Hotel sits in a great location within a calm and picturesque square….”
“Friendly and professional staff with personalized advice and recommendations on what to do, where to shop/eat, etc. The breakfast is top tier and very good quality and value. The hotel is clean and room service is done with great attention to detail (I even found my clothes with sand on them all washed and dried, sometimes they come 2-3x a day to refill water, close the blinds before bed time etc). The staff are very nice and go above and beyond to make your experience better. The hotel location is a little isolated from the hustling and bustling area with nightlife (Baixa/Chiado/Bairro Alto) but is located conveniently at the top of the city so it’s a scenic 20 min walk DOWNHILL to the seaside (and you get to the all the key neighborhoods on the way). Overall highly recommend and will be repeating next time we’re in Lisbon!…”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Maybe the ac was a little cold….”
”NOTHING!!! this hotel had it all….”
