The Bonerowski Palace in Krakow’s Old Town can be a family-friendly option, but, with that name, only if your family does not include any 12-year-old boys, of any age, we’d say.
The Bonerowski was, ahem, erected in the 14th-century, and modernised in the early 2000s to the upper levels of timeless elegance.
They’ve done very little funny business with the decor; it shows much of what you’d expect from a historic boutique hotel.
The general design is either period-inspired or that style of classic luxury that’s hard to put a date to, but feels nostalgic.
All in all, it’s a beautiful hotel with much historical character, an unbeatable location, and great staff.
What are the rooms like?
- Only 8 rooms: A small, intimate boutique setup.
- Classic style: Plush fabrics, wood moulding, and period-inspired decor.
- Room variety: Deluxe, Superior, Executive, and large Suites available.
- Huge suites: Some exceed 100 square metres with balconies and bathtubs.
- Modern comforts: TVs, minibars, coffee machines, and quality amenities throughout.

With only a few rooms to contend with, each one exhibits its own kind of flair.
In general, the atmosphere matches the rest of Bonerowski Palace, plush furnishings that sit on the edge of timeless.
Curtains billow, pillows fluff, and the upholstery seems to grow its own flowers.
A few of the room options have bolder designs, with patterned wallpaper, all boutique hotel fans will recognize tempered with lovely wood moulding.
Standard rooms are on the bare side; if it’s in the budget, we would go for an upgrade.
Deluxe options are the smallest, at 25 square metres, while Superior and Executive rooms can reach up to 50 square metres.
If you need more, go for one of the Suites. They’re notably large, over 100 square metres in most cases.
This allows for plenty of living space, bathtubs by the beds, balconies, and more.
Anything you choose will have excellent amenities, from the TVs to the minibars to the coffee machines in the morning.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Amalia Brasserie: A stylish pan-European restaurant with Polish influences.
- All-day dining: Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
- Great cocktails: A relaxed spot for wine or drinks before heading out.
- Limited facilities: Few extras due to the historic palace building.
Food at The Bonerowski is concentrated on the charming Amalia Brasserie.
It’s a pan-European-style restaurant, with ties to Polish cuisine but no strict focus on traditional fare.
Which is perfectly fine with us. The food is lovely, the cocktails classic, and it’s a great place to have when you haven’t made dinner plans.
We’re also sure the helpful staff will be able to point you in the direction of the best pierogies in town, if that’s what you’re looking for.
They’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, always there to fill your stomach or give you a glass of wine before you head out on the town.
The space is also quite nice, a more modern take on the decor than the rest of Bonerowski Palace, which we think works well.
The restaurant is probably the place we need the least historical vibe. No need to think about what an actual palace dining hall would have looked like, give us stylish booths and magical lighting any day.
Other facilities are super limited, which we understand in a historical building.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Old Town location: Right in Krakow’s historic Stare Miasto.
- Planty Park nearby: A scenic 4 km green belt following the old city walls.
- Kazimierz nightlife: A lively bar and restaurant district about 20 minutes away.
- Good transport links: Trams nearby for exploring Podgórze and Bronowice.
The Bonerowski Palace is right in Stare Miasto, the Old Town. So, about as central as you can get.
Surrounding the neighbourhood, you’ll find the cheerful Planty Park, a 4km stretch that follows the old city walls and creates a lovely transition into the rest of the city.
Within the confines of the park, you’ll find some superb architecture and museums to explore.
Depending on the length of your trip, though, you might run out of things to do. In that case, it’s an easy out past the greenery.
The still busy, still beautiful, but less touristy area of Kazimierz is a roughly 20-minute walk away.
You’ll find bars and restaurants here with more variety than in the centre, and we usually prefer it for nightlife.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?

“Best location to stay. The room with the grand piano and balcony over the square was worth every penny….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Don’t arrive for breakfast at the said opening time of 7.30 am – the breakfast room isn’t set up yet and the young staff get very flustered…”
”Nothing. But if I were to improve it, it would add a gym/pool….”
