Hotel Copernicus, in Kraków’s Old Town, is, we feel, fit for a (Renaissance era Polish) king.
Its ornamented reddish brick facade just demands attention, even amongst a whole bunch of other lovely buildings.
On the picturesque Kanonicza Street, we love how this hotel both fits in and stands out.
Furnishings and decor are heavy in the way of antiques, sporting dark woods and the occasional sumptuous black leather.
The hotel is the first in Poland to be associated with Relais & Châteaux.
The spa operates under L’Occitane and the restaurant has as many awards as it has famous patrons.
What are the rooms like?
- 29 rooms and suites: Classic interiors with antique furnishings and historic charm.
- Elegant style: Dark wood beds, leather seating, and rich traditional décor.
- Deluxe rooms: Decorative painted walls and ceilings for extra character.
- Grand suites: Spacious layouts, marble bathrooms, and frescoed ceilings.
- Modern comforts: LED TVs, minibars, workspaces, and cosy slippers.

The rooms at Copernicus have an old-fashioned, handsome quality.
With full bed frames made from dark wood and heavy leather chairs, it’s full-on classic.
Standard rooms are simple, sophisticated spaces with plenty of space and a toned-down sense of style that hints at smoking cigars while staring pensively out the window.
Deluxe options go a bit harder on the decor with painted walls and ceilings.
But for us it’s really in the suites that Hotel Copernicus starts feeling seriously kingly.
They start at 40 square feet, standard options sporting a separate living area and some pretty stunning white marble bathrooms.
Other options offer glass-roofed bathtubs, panoramic views, and some truly gorgeous frescos.
Whatever you choose, amenities are solid, with LED TVs, working areas, mini bars, and cosy slippers.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Copernicus Restaurant: Multi-award-winning fine dining with Polish royal inspirations.
- Tasting menu focus: Elegant modern dishes featuring traditional ingredients.
- Rooftop terrace: Beautiful summer spot with city views and wrought-iron charm.
- L’Occitane spa: Pool, dry sauna, and luxurious treatments.
- No gym: Wellness facilities focus on spa relaxation rather than fitness.
There’s a feast-y kind of style to the food at Copernicus Restaurant, Hotel Copernicus’s multi-award-winning, on-site restaurant.
The menu is loosely based on Polish royal cuisine. It’s more ingredients than anything, we’d assume, as preparation is all modern elegance.
This means plenty of quail, mushrooms, crayfish, and more, slightly old-fashioned but inventive delectables.
It also means dietary restrictions and picky eaters may be difficult to navigate, so check with the restaurant before your reservations.
It’s also definitely fine dining. There is an à la carte menu, but the tasting menu and lunch menu are set.
Breakfast, we can assure you, is good to go. Nothing super strange in here, and plenty of options to appeal to whatever palette you turn up with.
You’ve also got a handsome bar and a stunning summer terrace. Anyone visiting in the warmer months can spend hours in the fresh air, surrounded by wrought iron and superb city views.
If all this isn’t fancy enough, just head down to the spa. There’s no fitness centre, maybe they assume you get all your exercise in on the hunt or supervising the cavalry.
There are plenty of treatments, a pool, a dry sauna, and lots of brand-name products that will make you feel all fancy and French.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Kanonicza Street: One of Kraków’s most beautiful historic streets.
- Near Wawel Castle: A short walk to the Royal Castle and cathedral complex.
- Planty Park nearby: A lovely green walking route around Old Town.
- Kazimierz nightlife: The Jewish Quarter’s bars and restaurants are within walking distance.
Copernicus has a great location on the Instagram-friendly historic Kanonicza Street.
This is the centre of Krakow’s Old Town and leads straight towards the Royal Castle.
Planty Park, the charming green area surrounding the Old Town, is our favourite place for a walk, 10 minutes from Hotel Copernicus.
From there, you can also head south towards Kazimierz, the historic Jewish Quarter, for some sobering history.
Less sobering is the nightlife there; Kazimierz is also our favourite place for a night out in Krakow.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Everything! The location was perfect. The street is beautiful, with the castle just outside and with incredible views from the roof terrace. Our room was clean, spacious and oh my goodness, the beds and bedding were out of this world. Most comfortable bed ever. The spa has the wow factor, the treatments were lovely (we had two different spa treatments). Lastly.. dinner was so delicious. We had the 5 course taster menu and every mouthful was beautiful. We had dinner for my best friends birthday and they really made it so special for us. We would highly recommend this hotel and restaurant, we will definitely return….”
“Location was superb, a very short walk from anything you’d need and 10 minutes from the main square. The spa and restaurant were both excellent and the staff were great, very kind and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Bed position, couldn’t get all way around, had to climb over one side to get in as no room at the bottom of the bed due to steps to bathroom….”
”There was a fair amount of disparity between different rooms that were supposed the same type….”
