TL;DR
- Colour-forward design: A boldly decorated Amsterdam boutique hotel with playful interiors.
- Immersive atmosphere: From lounges to patios, every space feels transportive and thoughtfully styled.
- Central canals: Right on the Singel, with top sights, dining, and museums close by.

In Hotel Estheréa, by the Singel Canal, you’ll enjoy bright hues and patterned walls, and be brought from canal to lush jungle in a single staircase.
Here, each space has a dedicated theme, from delicate flamingos in the rosy pink lounge to a verdant patio.
We love sophisticated historic vibes, sure, but it’s always nice to see a hotel that’s not afraid of a little colour.
The nice part is that patterns and pigment are the loudest things about Estheréa.
Staff are welcoming yet unobtrusive, and the decor is so immersive you’ll forget there’s anything outside until you step out the door.
Hotel Estheréa also has pretty good rates for such a beautiful hotel, though note that their cheaper, entry level rooms tend to get booked out quite quickly.
What are the rooms like?
- 91 rooms: A wide range of colourful, individually styled rooms and suites.
- Compact to spacious: Entry rooms are cosy, with larger categories offering more comfort and views.
- Maximalist charm: Pattern-heavy interiors balanced by practical modern amenities.

Rooms start quite cosily, with 13 square metre Classics. They’re mostly for lying in and looking at, cause they’re small but very pretty.
Form over function then somewhat, but note that the form is really lovely.
A pattern on the wall here typically brings together whatever patterns appear in the upholstery or linens.
It makes for rooms of pastel, rooms of jewel tones, rooms with butterflies all over the walls, or paisley, or whatever else you can imagine.
If we’re being honest, we’ve seen it done better in places like London, filled as it is with Firmdales, but nothing in Amsterdam has the same maximalist charm.
And once you get out of the basic room types, form and function form a more perfect union.
Luxury and Canal options hit a respectable 20 square metres, with lovely views from the Canal room windows. Some even feature jacuzzi tubs.
Family rooms bring even more space, and suites bring the luxury. These ground-floor beauties offer sophisticated space with warm palettes and the kind of plush furnishings you want to faint onto.
All rooms at Hotel Estheréa have as standard, mini bars, TVs, Nespresso machines, and luxurious bathrooms.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Cosy all-day bar: Cocktails in the evening and complimentary cookies throughout the day.
- More cosy spaces: Inviting lounges and a library, instead of a formal restaurant.
- Useful extras: 24/7 gym, meeting rooms, and bike rental
Hotel Estheréa doesn’t have a formal “restaurant” restaurant like many of its counterparts. An on-site breakfast and 24/7 bar do their best to make up for it.
Cocktails are served from evening into the wee hours, and you can help yourself to cookies throughout the day.
We actually quite like that all the common areas are not devoted to the culinary arts. The super charming library is the perfect place for a morning crossword.
The gym is open 24/7, and there are some meeting rooms available for small groups.
The super-helpful staff is also on hand to help with bike rentals and whatever else you might need.
And everything that’s not sweet libraries, cheeky cookies and insects on your wallpaper is easy to access outside.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Inner canal base: Surrounded by top restaurants, culture, and classic Amsterdam scenery.
- Walkable sights: Major landmarks and museums are easy to reach on foot or by bike.
- Well-connected: Central without feeling hectic, ideal for first-time visitors.
Singel and the surrounding inner canals are home to most of the city’s top restaurants, and plenty more.
Nearby large, upscale hotels offer spas you can book, and almost every one of the city’s main attractions is within walking distance, or biking distance.
You’ll find the infamous Red Light District 10 minutes away, past the Royal Palace and some famous coffee shops.
A more serious don’t-miss, The Anne Frank House, is just 5 minutes towards the outskirts. And the canals nearby are home to many other cultural sites.
The Tulip Museum is just around the corner, or you can head towards the 9-Streets district to check out the Houseboat Museum, Museum of the Canals, and the Huis Marseille Photography Museum.
The world-famous Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum are probably the furthest, but worth a walk, or a bike ride.
You can get there in 20 minutes on foot, and it’s near the lovely Vondelpark.
