This, the incredibly highly guest-rated, Al Ponte Antico occupies a refurbished 16th-century palace right by Venice’s Grand Canal.
So, location-wise, it’s just unbeatable. And design-wise, we’re happy to report there’s almost nothing to distract from the trappings of old royalty.
Any modern amenities are overshadowed by acres of damask, plush curtains chosen to match floor-to-ceiling, patterned wallpapers.
It’s design that’s hard to call anything but plain lavish, and it’s all dreamily situated with classic Venetian views over the Grand Canal.
It’s over the top in many ways, but being such a small hotel, it also has enough laid-back, homely charm to balance out the fanciness of it all.

With a small number of superbly decorated rooms, there’s really no wrong choice here.
All Al Ponte Antico accommodation features the same luxurious trappings, elegant drapes, four-poster beds, rich wood furnishing and upholstery to rival a Shondaland take on Marie Antoinette.
With all the frouferry, especially the mildly psychedelic wallpaper, Classic Rooms can feel on the edge of cramped, we’d go Superior at least.
Here, there’s plenty of extra room for the handsome antique furniture. Deluxe options then are for those who need a canal view, and well, you’re in Venice, who doesn’t?
If you have the means, we’d recommend you go for Deluxe just for that and nothing else.
Suites, then, are notably more spacious, and they do really give more of an indulgent layabout atmosphere.
The suite with patio option is the showstopper of the hotel. You’ll pay for it, of course, but it is the best room in the place.
Whatever you choose, all rooms just have a uniquely romantic atmosphere, with modern trappings like mini bars, climate control, televisions, comfortable beds, and some fabulous antique furniture pieces.

- Elegant breakfasts: – generous spreads of pastries, fruits, cheeses, jams, and excellent coffee.
- Homely atmosphere: – intimate service and welcoming staff make the hotel feel personal.
- Stylish lounge: – beautifully decorated breakfast room continues the lavish Venetian aesthetic.
- Small bar: – ideal for a relaxed spritz after a day exploring Venice.
- Boutique scale: – limited facilities, but plenty of charm and comfort.
Al Ponte Antico is not a large property, so don’t expect too much in the way of facilities. It’s more like a home, and the staff are super welcoming.
They do have a beautifully decorated main room in which breakfast is served daily, though.
This means a large, elegant spread of fruits, freshly made pastries, cheeses, jams, great coffee, and other delights of a luxurious breakfast.
You’ll also be able to snag a spritz or two at the small bar later. It’s one of the few places that doesn’t toy with OTT design, though it has enough zhuzh to fit the rest of the hotel.

It’s a 3-minute walk to Ponte Rialto, and the vaporetto stop is right next door. 10 minutes south is Saint Mark’s Square, St. Mark’s Basilica, and the Palazzo Ducale.
The Renaissance-happy Basilica dei Frari and the rest of San Polo are just across the bridge, near the famed Rialto Market.
Surrounding small cafés and bars make for pleasant stops along the way, for an aperitif, a gelato, or even a small shopping spree.
All of this is just a few canals away from Al Ponte Antico.
If you need to get to the train station, the Biennale, or the nearby islands, you’re all set.
Rialto easily connects to almost all the vaporetto lines, and you can easily head up through small canals towards F.te Nove to get to Murano.
We don’t need to tell you we’re sure that the rides through the canals are a quintessential part of the Venice experience, whether you want to get somewhere or not.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Outstanding…the owner prepared all the pastries and bread each morning. Coffee drinks prepared by staff well versed in Barista service. The excellent staff was/is a direct reflection of the owners pride and dedication to giving patrons the best experience he/they can offer. I cannot stress enough how personalized our stay felt. The balcony/deck overlooks the canal & Rialto Bridge and is one of the few balconies on the canal to enjoy breakfast, coffee and drinks throughout the day….”
“Probably one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at. Everyone was super welcoming and the hotel is lovely and at a great location….”
