Ottantotto Firenze is a gorgeous, history-rich boutique hotel in Florence, occupying a centuries-old palazzo that has lived countless lives.
Its latest incarnation is this, a luxury urban retreat, one that preserves the sense of age and romance that makes Florence so irresistible.
Walls are both stone and floral wallpaper, part of the subtle balance between old and almost new, sophisticated and whimsical, that defines the place.
Overall though, the interior design tilts decidedly towards the historic and the sophisticated, and it’s just beautiful, at every turn.

It’s certainly intimate, Ottantotto. There are only seven rooms.
Some are definitely single-only, others made to share. They’re all a gorgeous combination of warm lighting, some kind of attractive wallpaper, and cosy furnishings.
Classic rooms are the smallest – 15 square metres of beautifully decorated sanctuary will keep you calm and centred.
Superior rooms offer more space, better for couples, who will adore the Beaton Suite if they’re feeling a bit fancy.
The tiny rooftop balcony is 10/10 on the romance.
The Family Suite, mixes the Beaton Suite with a Classic Room for a two-bedroom event.
They’re all lovely, endowed with the best of amenities, including LCD TVs, minibars, tea & coffee capabilities, and seating.

• Beautiful common spaces – the garden and living room are perfect for relaxing.
• Honesty bar – tea, coffee and drinks are always close at hand.

Breakfast is your main food option, a lovely spread served onsite that you can wander down to in the morning.
Ottantotto’s living room and garden are available to eat and lounge about in throughout the day and night.
Common areas are both lush and gorgeous, a mix of stone and wood that perfectly matches the rest of the hotel’s vibe.
The living room is stocked with tea and coffee, a great place to bring back a litre of local vintage. They have an honesty bar too if you don’t want to have to venture outside for your wine.
Reception has limited hours, but they’re well-suited for a morning chat as you plan your day, ready to give recommendations, make reservations, whatever you need.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
• Oltrarno location – one of Florence’s most atmospheric neighbourhoods, filled with local cafés, galleries and restaurants.
• Major sights nearby – Boboli Gardens, Palazzo Pitti and Santo Spirito are all within easy walking distance.
• Easy city access – crossing the Arno quickly connects you with the Duomo, Uffizi and Palazzo Vecchio.
• Authentic atmosphere – a slightly calmer, more local side of Florence without sacrificing convenience.
Right out the door, you’ll find a small road leading to a small park, surrounded by restaurants and cafes of the best, local-neighbourhood-feeling sort.
The Walls of Florence are right around the corner, and the open spaces of nearby Boboli Gardens are less than 10 minutes from the hotel.
Palazzo Pitti, Oltrarno’s other main attraction, is just as close, and the delightful atmosphere of the ‘other’ side of the Arno is all around.
There’s a slightly more laid-back feel to the area, along with a lovely collection of local restaurants, galleries and cafes to enjoy.
The nightlife of Santo Spirito is nicely contrasted by the neighbourhood’s austere basilica.
So we’re not too central here, but it’s impossible to forget you’re in Florence.
To complete the greatest hits, you’ll have to cross the river, and then it’s just a straight shot to Ponte alla Carraia.
Your introduction to the other side comes in the form of Piazza Goldoni, and yet another straight shot will bring you right to the Duomo.
It makes it easy to get back and forth from Ottantotto, morning or night.
Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi, and the Bargello are an easy walking distance as well.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Compliments to all the staff, professional, kind, and unobtrusive, and they are very attentive to details! The breakfast was delicious, varied, and unlike the usual fare found in traditional hotels. The garden is a little gem, nestled among lush greenery and blooming flowers, and it’s truly lovely to enjoy a moment of relaxation after the chaos and queues to visit the magnificent works of art in the historic center. Highly recommended….”
“The hotel was so charming and lovely. Beautiful old building, lovely garden, and the rooms were very unique and comfortable—and quiet for sleeping! Great big bathroom and nice shower! The breakfast was delicious, and the staff were very accommodating. It was also very close to everything we wanted to see without being in the fray of the touristy neighborhoods….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”The only minor downside was that the room was a little small. We were ok with 2 small suitcases, but if you were staying longer and had larger suitcases to manage, you might want to choose one of the bigger rooms….”
”Nothing! It was fantastic, some money off would be great next time as almost £700 for 3 nights but the hotel was worth it….”
