This super central Milan boutique hotel, about two minutes walk from the Duomo, shows Room Mate’s Collection at its very best.
Room Mate is a European hotel chain that has two levels of hospitality, one fun, the other sophisticated.
Room Mate Collection Giulia leans more sophisticated; it’s Milan, after all, but also fun.
It took a very charming, classic historic building and filled it with bold, cheerful colours.
It’s cutting edge design, and we particulary like what they’ve done with the bathrooms.
It draws a cool crowd too. Dress your best, order a Fernet at the bar and join them.

There’s a simple style to the guestrooms at Room Mate Giulia, one that scales up very nicely.
Architectural-feeling headboards offer plenty of atmosphere for rooms full of colourful and geometric desks, seating, and lights.
There’s plenty to choose from, as well. Room Mate Giulia starts with 20-ish square metre Standard Rooms that are a nice, basic choice.
Still, we like the roomier and quirkier options. Deluxe rooms start at 30 square metres, Triples with couches that double as single beds.
Our personal favorites are the Attic Rooms, not quite 30 square metres but perfectly arranged with large, half-shaded terraces absolutely made for a bottle of Prosecco in the afternoon.
Junior Suites lack the terrace, but add a living area with a cute daybed and plenty of room to make the space your home.
All rooms have plenty of cosy linens, wardrobes for your clothes, seating, desks, and TVs.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Late breakfast: – buffet service runs until midday, ideal for slower mornings.
- Generous buffet: – wide variety of options, including freshly made desserts.
- Colourful spa: – a cheerful sauna and steam room stand out from typical hotel wellness areas.
- Yoga sessions: – rooftop classes provide a relaxing break from sightseeing.
- Evening drinks: – the hotel bar is a great place for a spritz before heading out.
We love a late breakfast (we’re still looking for a hotel anywhere that proudly advertises Bed & Brunch – someone get on to it) and at Room Mate Collection Giulia, we have breakfast options until midday.
Some guests report being disappointed by the breakfast. Many times, we don’t know what some guest reviews are on about, and this is one, though, granted that you are either a buffet breakfast person or not.
Here it’s buffet all the way, and with a great variety. They even have freshly-made tiramisu on there, as an example. (Why isn’t dessert after breakfast more of a thing by the way?)
There is no lunch or evening meals at Room Mate Collection Giulia, rather surprisingly, as their breakfast set-up is so impressive.
Once you’re fed, we’d recommend a trip to the spa or a yoga class on the terrace before heading out to the sights.
The spa is small but mighty. It’s a beautifully designed sauna and steam room that is colourful and wonderfully cheerful, in a way that other hotel spas could learn from.
Right next door, undershadowed, is a small, bare-minimum hotel-type fitness centre.
Dodge the gym for today, we’d say, embrace the tiramisu for breakfast, and be sure to head to Room Mate’s cute bar for a spritz on your way out in the evening.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- City centre location: – the Duomo, La Scala, Brera, and Sforzesco Castle are all within easy walking distance.
- Perfect for sightseeing: – many of Milan’s biggest highlights can be explored on foot.
- Excellent transport: – nearby metro stations connect quickly to the rest of the city.
- Fashion access: – convenient for Fashion Week events and Milan’s design districts.
- Local alternatives: – easily reach Tortona or Ticinese for a less touristy atmosphere.
Get set, you’re in the dead centre of Milan. So it’s busy, you’ll appreciate the spa more after having been out and about for a day or two.
You are, though, mere minutes walk from Teatro alla Scala, the Duomo, all of stylish Brera, and the art and greenery of, our favourite, Sforzesco Castle, ten minutes walk to the north.
Really, at least half of your Milanese bucket list can be checked off on foot, as long as you can brave the crowds. Room Mate Guilia makes it easy.
Restaurants and bars will be on the edge of touristy nearby, but the nearby Cordusio, Duomo, and San Babila metro stations can connect you with basically any part of the city you’d prefer to explore.
Head off to Tortona if you’ve managed to hit Fashion Week, or towards Ticinese for a more alternative, local crowd.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
