A refined, classic luxury stay in Rome’s Monti district, Villa Spalletti Trivelli stands for heritage and elegance.
It’s set on one of the original seven hills of Rome, the Quirinale, and classic elegance is the name of the game here.
Villa Spalletti Trivelli is all upscale, from the marble fireplaces to the rich wood furnishings spread throughout the boutique hotel.
It’s a classic kind of elegance, nothing too creative, but everything you want in a luxury holiday.
We’re talking lovely floral upholstery, dark wood, and intricate wall tapestries. The stunning villa that houses the hotel is another great touch.
As mentioned previously, there’s not much new and cutting-edge here. It’s not modern, it’s classic, and it will appeal to those who want that historical touch, with an extra serving of cushy comfort.
The spa and rooftop garden finish it all out. It’s a posh stay in the centre of the city, well worth what promises to be an enjoyable stay.
What are the rooms like?
• 14 rooms – a small collection of elegant rooms and spacious suites within a historic villa.
• Classic style – interiors blend traditional décor with soft colour palettes and refined detailing.
• Spacious suites – larger options include Garden Suites with terraces and generous living space.
• Luxury essentials – marble bathrooms, premium linens, minibars, TVs and climate control throughout.
• See each room in detail here
Rooms at Villa Spalletti Trivelli are done up in the same style as the rest of the hotel, with a little more comfortable guest room than historical relic mixed in.
They’re not the classic white-on-white, which we find to be an excellent touch. Some rooms feature a golden sort of glow, others relaxing blues. Leafy motifs abound.
There’s not actually much room going on here, just a couple of options starting at around 25 square metres.
It sets the tone for the rest of the hotel.
Suites make up the majority of accommodation, ranging from 40 to 90 square metres. The largest are the Garden Suites, resplendent in cream-coloured luxuries and inviting terraces.
Throughout, there’s more balance between modern and classic. The style remains, but amenities are unapologetically modern, such as glass showers and sleek black outdoor furnishings.
Whichever space you end up in, you’ll enjoy marble bathrooms, original art prints, large TVs, individual climate control, well-curated minibars, and the finest of linens.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
• Homely dining – breakfast and food service feel relaxed and pleasantly informal.
• Evening drinks – a self-service drinks cart adds a sociable, informal touch.
• Rooftop bar – offers cocktails and elevated views over the city.
• Wellness spa – Caschera Spa provides treatments, pools and a full relaxation experience.
The food onsite is simple and feels homemade, including the breakfast. It feels like a classic B&B in that regard, which we like.
Villa Spalletti Trivelli also offers a self-service drinks cart each evening, so guests can lounge around common areas, drinks in hand.
There’s also a rooftop bar with great views and cocktails.
Our favourite other touch is the Caschera Spa, a wellness retreat with a good reputation and also open to the general public.
Here, you’ll find a fitness area, plenty of spa treatments, massages, wading pools, and more.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
• Prime Monti location – set in central Rome with easy access to major historic districts.
• Walking distance sights – Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Colosseum and Roman Forum are all nearby.
• Well connected – Barberini metro and taxis make exploring further areas easy.
• Local amenities – surrounded by cafés, restaurants and everyday Roman neighbourhood life.
And you are in the centre of the city. The neighbourhood, Monti is one of the largest in Rome, encompassing a few of the city’s original hills, and close to almost everything.
Villa Spalletti Trivelli is beautifully situated near the north of the area, minutes from Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and many other attractions.
To the west, you’ll find the historical heart of Rome, home to the Colosseum, the forum, and plenty of other major sites.
For anyone comfortable walking a bit, only the Vatican should require extra transportation. Taxis and rideshares will be easiest, but the Barberini metro is only a ten-minute walk from the hotel.
Around Villa Spalletti Trivelli you’ll find plenty of cafes and restaurants. Options are more than enough to satisfy cravings for everything from cheap eats, to artisan bakeries, to high-end fine dining.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Every aspect of our stay exceeded our expectations and I am not certain that I could find the exact words to convey how beyond satisfied we were. The location was perfect. We were within walking distance to the most historic sites in Rome. Villa Spalletti Trivelli is within short walking distance to the Coliseum, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain just to name a few. From their location on top of the hill you are literally walking in the footsteps of history. From our home base at Villa Spalletti we spent time in Vatican City, but from this location you could literally walk a short distance and see the oldest Jesuit University that educated 16 Popes and 28 Canonized Saints or simply walk down the street to the church that has 22-25 preserved hearts from Popes dating back to 1585. It is also close to many fantastic restaurants, shops and cafes as well, with several recommended by the staff. The breakfast available each morning is outstanding and I would challenge you to find a better cup of cappuccino than they serve. Beyond the perfect location, the Villa itself is stunning. Each of the rooms in the common areas are beautiful. Any of the locations from the library to the other sitting rooms are a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a complimentary drink from the well stocked bar. When not sitting inside, we were able to sit in the courtyard and listen to the water trickling from the fountain, or at the rooftop deck….”
“The hotel could easily be the backdrop of a Wes Anderson movie! Loved the architecture of the building and the lovely rooms filled with fluffy linens and beautiful decor. The bathrooms were huge and housekeeping kept everything well stocked and tidy. Breakfast was extensive. Overall, it was luxurious without being pretentious and the staff are total professionals who think of everything….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”There’s no trash can in the bathroom or room…Well, I’m a bit uncomfortable with that….”
