Few stays feel more Roman than spending the night in a restored 15th-century palazzo in the heart of Centro Storico
Palazzo Delle Pietre occupies a renovated 15th-century building, owned by a former Prada chairman, as it happens, and it offers all the sophistication you’d expect.
It’s a mix of now and then, the building classic yet adorned in modern luxuries. Decor is new; a sleek kind of contemporary accented with antiquity.
We wouldn’t call it an apart-hotel because it feels so luxurious, but it is a collection of luxury apartments.
Anyone wanting the full hotel experience will want to look somewhere else, but those with a sense of independence alongside their sense of style will be more than satisfied.
All in all, Palazzo Delle Pietre offers a superb location with plenty of luxury set for for the Roman holiday we’ve all dreamed of.

Each apartment has its own particular style, but you can rest assured that it will be beautiful and relaxing.
There’s a gorgeously composed sense of a design here. It all feels intimate and homey, yet rich and indulgent.
Worn wood doors open to vibrant throw pillows over understated furnishings, each element perfectly selected.
Studios are the simplest, though at 40 square metres they’re far from small. Other options range through roomy Prestige Apartments and giant 2-bedroom Penthouses.
Apartments in the separate La Corte building offer the same design quality with even more space and privacy.
We love anything with a terrace; a private outside space just minutes from the Pantheon is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience.
Whatever you choose, you’re looking at designer decor, fully equipped kitchens and marble bathrooms.
Check while booking if you’re partial to a bathtub – they’re available in certain spaces.
4K televisions and Illy coffee machines are standard throughout.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Personalised service: – bespoke experiences replace the facilities of a traditional luxury hotel.
- FraMmenti Club access: – guests receive exclusive membership and concierge benefits.
- Private chef experiences: – cooking lessons, market visits and in-apartment dining can all be arranged.
- Luxury services: – grocery deliveries, restaurant reservations, tours, spa treatments and more.
- Private hammam: – an excellent wellness feature that enhances the luxury residence feel.
Of course, the limitations of an apart hotel are obvious here. With no onsite restaurant, it’s not the luxury hotel experience we’re used to, though Palazzo Delle Pietre has many ways to make up for it.
All guests at Palazzo Delle Pietre are granted membership to the prestigious FraMmenti Club.
This is how, rather than traditional hotel facilities, Palazzo Delle Pietre focuses on personalised service.
A variety of bespoke or arranged services are available, our favourite being the private chef service, which can also include cooking lessons, and you tag along at the food markets as well!
They can also arrange grocery deliveries, restaurant reservations, tours, personal trainers and spa treatments.
Finally, the onsite hammam is a superb addition, making the whole space feel more like a private luxury residence than a conventional serviced apartment

Palazzo Delle Pietre might have the best location of all our chosen boutique hotels in Rome.
If you like to be walking distance to most of the important sites, it’s hard to do better.
Piazza Navona is minutes in one direction, the Trevi Fountain minutes in the other.
It’s less than 10 minutes to the Ponte Umberto I, which will take you over the Tiber, towards Castel Sant’Angelo and the Vatican.
If you’re more interested in the ancient gods, the Pantheon will be right on your doorstep less than 5 minutes from the boutique.
The Forum and Colosseum will be the furthest of the big attractions, accessible by public transport, but still only a half-hour walk.
Around the hotel will be lively and crowded, pretty much a guarantee this close to all of Rome’s highlights.
Still, you’re surrounded by antiquities, hotspots, and some of the best cultural tourism the world has to offer.
The surrounding streets are packed with cafés, restaurants and wine bars.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“First, you can’t possibly get a better location in the historic center of Rome. Unassuming from the exterior, once you step inside, you are greeted by the staff in what resembles a brightly lit art gallery. In fact, both the central spaces and each apartment have their own specific sculptures, wall ornaments and paintings….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”The only extremely minor issue was that the television was not setup correctly and required a (very fast) visit from their staff. I missed that there was no way to play music over the room TV, but that was it for dislikes….”
