Hotel Vilòn is a stylish, cosy, boutique hotel, hidden away in Campo Marzio, one of central Rome’s most elegant neighbourhoods.
It’s also within easy walking distance of lots of this ancient city’s major sights.
It’s more modern design hotel than historic Palazzo, but thanks to its connection with Palazzo Borghese – a constant presence out the windows – it never feels disconnected from history.
Inside then, the style is modern, and edges on the side of maximalist with bright accent colours and striking artwork.
It’s a nicely balanced place. The adjacent Palazzo adds historical atmosphere and intrigue, while the contemporary interiors make it feel young and fresh.

Rooms are unusually spacious for central Rome and have several distinct categories.
Your smallest, the Charming Room (we love the names at Hotel Vilòn), starts at 30 square metres.
Our personal favourite is the Charming Terrace, which offers outdoor space looking out towards the Palazzo Borghese’s private garden.
The vibe is white and pale textiles alongside statement artworks, gorgeous paintings with a baroque-esque feel.
Decor can described in the expected Art Deco terms, but we think it offers a little more than that.
Maybe it’s the moulding, maybe its Hotel Vilòn’s simple yet elegant taste in furniture, or the parquet flooring. Whatever it is, it’s nice to be around.
If you find it boring, many of the suites offer different decor, like colourful walls and patterned wallpaper, all done with a tasteful, deft touch.
And every room offers Tivoli radios, bespoke toiletries, minibars, TVs, and Nespresso machines.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Adelaide’s Restaurant: – offers a fine continental breakfast each morning.
- Atmospheric dining: – intimate interiors and a lush, plant-filled outdoor patio.
- Mediterranean cuisine: – seasonal, Roman-leaning dishes with a refined approach.
- Lounge space: – comfortable indoor area ideal for drinks and relaxing in any weather.
- Limited facilities: – no spa, gym or wellness amenities on site.
Adelaide’s Restaurant offers a complimentary continental to guests each morning.
It’s a delightful space, with a bit more panache in the design. Hotel Vilòn’s outdoor patio is resplendent in greenery, the interior intimate and sultry.
You’ll find it full of curios, a nice touch of Palazzo Borghese influence, all perfectly curated.
The fare is Mediterranean, weighted Roman, and decidedly seasonal.
And even if you’ve booked all your dining already, there’s little that beats a cool beverage under the towering plants of the patio.
It’s connected to a delightful lounge area, perfect for less pleasant weather.
Bohemian-inspired, there’s plenty of colour and print happening, a wonderful contrast to the relative peace of the guest rooms.
Unfortunately for anyone who loves a good facility, there’s not much else.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Prime central location: – tucked in Campo Marzio, Rome, near Via Tomacelli and the Tiber.
- Easy riverside access: – quick walk to the Tiber for scenic strolls.
- Major sights nearby: – Castel Sant’Angelo, Vatican, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon all within walking distance.
- Excellent connectivity: – Spagna metro station is around 10 minutes away.
- Walkable city: – even the Colosseum is reachable on foot for those who like longer strolls.
Even this friendly space offers plenty of peaceful moments compared to the bustle of the space outside.
Hotel Vilòn is situated in a superb spot, the interiors facing a peaceful privacy, the exterior just seconds from the central Via Tomacelli.
This short length of street leads straight to the Tiber, and the promise of leisurely riverside strolls.
This makes it an easy walk to plenty of attractions. Castel Sant’Angelo and Piazza Pia are just 15 minutes, the Vatican another 15 past there.
Heading south brings you to the Trevi Fountain and Pantheon in under 15 minutes on foot.
You can continue on foot through Monti, and on to the Colosseum and Forum, though that’s a much longer walk.
The Spagna metro station is 10-minutes away.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“The property is in a great location with shops and restaurants within walking distance along with many sights and attractions. The room was expansive, the bed was very comfortable and both the bedroom and the bathroom were spacious, well appointed and very comfortable. There was also a closet/desk/coffee/tea area that was also spacious and convenient for all our clothes suitcases and nick-nacks. The balcony was nice but did not have an opportunity to use it (January visit!) We also had dinner at the restaurant on arrival and it was sumptuous along with the great service. We also had breakfast each day and we enjoyed the variety of the menu and again the great service! Everyone was very friendly, helpful and courteous! We had a marvelous experience….”
“Everything! Absolutely gorgeous hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The food was consistently delicious and the location makes it easy to see Romes many sights….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”The one thing to be aware is the steps down from the bedroom to the rest of the room, it can be a bit difficult to remember at night especially so we left a light on in the bathroom to give us enough illumination to avoid any mishaps….”
”The team was helpful and efficient and assisted us with everything we needed. My only suggestion is about the tone of service: while the staff was attentive, at times the interaction felt a little formal/serious, and a touch more friendliness would have made us feel even more welcome. Overall, a great stay and a hotel I would happily recommend….”
