This artsy boutique in Monti, Rome offers a more lively take on the ancient city.
Forget marble and velvet, or at least leave it up to the big names.
For those seeking luxury without the formality of Rome’s grand hotels, Casa Monti offers a more playful, contemporary alternative.
It’s a cheerful type of bohemian, more on the colourful patterns side of things than the dark corners and absinthe vibe.
French designer Laura Gonzalez has nailed the atmosphere here, encouraging fun without sacrificing elegance.
There’s a design led feel to the space that keeps it on the side of sophisticated, even in the face of bold printed wallpaper and playful geometric prints.
Our main quibble is the price. Yep, it’s Rome, we know, and it’s a very trendy hotel, but some other places’ entry-level rooms offer better value.
We do love Casa Monti’s suites though, whatever the price.
What are the rooms like?
• 36 rooms – a wide variety of room and suite styles for design-conscious travellers.
• Bold interiors – vibrant wallpaper, colourful patterns and playful details define the aesthetic.
• Terrace upgrades – many suites include valuable private outdoor space in the heart of Rome.
• Modern comforts – Chromecast TVs, Bluetooth speakers, minibars and pillow menus as standard.

The room categories vary considerably in style, giving the design-conscious plenty to choose from.
One through-line is vibrant wallpaper, and while no two room types are the same, they share a sense of colourful whimsy.
Art Suites are the wackiest; others have been toned down with elegant vases, atmospheric pastel walls, and dark wood accents.
Make no mistake, however, the vibe is maximalist, and there will be patterns. They’re beautifully combined, however, to make rooms and suites feel lively but welcoming.
Many suites add private terraces; a valuable luxury in the heart of Rome.
Cosy Rooms, Casa Monti’s simplest option, feature TVs with Chromecast, Bluetooth speakers, minibars, pillow menus and closets.
From there, you’re looking at additional luxuries like living rooms, bathtubs, sofa beds, and more.

• Rooftop bar – one of the hotel’s standout features, offering superb views across Rome.
• Relaxing spa – a quality wellness space complete with a welcome jacuzzi.
• Terrace atmosphere – rooftop and restaurant terraces provide plenty of space to unwind outdoors.
If you don’t book a terrace room but still want the experience, head to Casa Monti Ristorante, the onsite restaurant.
Their dining terrace is an airy delight, next to a beautifully designed interior of muted stripes and all the tasteful patterns you can imagine.
The rooftop bar is a don’t-miss, even if you aren’t staying in the hotel. It’s a lovely space with superb views.
The restaurant focuses on Italian cuisine with modern interpretations of classic dishes, with some especially good desserts.
Also essential to a stay here is the onsite spa, also housed on the top floor.
It’s a classic spa experience, nothing groundbreaking, but everything quality.
The jacuzzi is an excellent touch for anyone sporting sore feet after wandering around the Forum or the Vatican Museums’ three-hour tour.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
• Central Monti base – one of Rome’s most characteristic neighbourhoods.
• Major sights nearby – the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon are all within reach.
• Walkable location – many of Rome’s highlights can be reached on foot.
• Well connected – taxis, rideshares and Cavour metro station make exploring straightforward.
Monti is one of the largest neighbourhoods in Rome, an interesting space tucked between Termini Station and the Colosseum.
There aren’t a ton of top highlights in the neighbourhood proper, yet they’re all close by. To the northwest lies Trevi Fountian and the Pantheon.
It’s a great location, with the Forum not far from the Colosseum, and both about a 15-minute walk from the Casa Monti. Trevi Fountain is about the same.
And it’s still Rome; there are interesting historic sites within Monti, no question. The archaeology of Domus Aurea sits near a lovely park with Teatro Brancaccio on the other end.
Via Panisperna, where Casa Monti sits, is lined with interesting restaurants, cafes, and places to hang out.
For other adventures, it won’t be hard to snag a taxi or rideshare, and you can connect to Rome’s public transport at Cavour metro station.
