O.Henry Hotel

This Midtown Greensboro hotel sits in the middle of Friendly Center Shopping Village, a slightly odd spot for a pretty cool hotel. It’s a 1990 remake of a 1919 hotel that lived in Downtown Greensboro before its demolition in 1979. This gives the space a historical vibe with plenty of modern amenities. It’s all bright red awnings and brick, and stunning woodwork interiors, both stately and fresh. The atmosphere carries through to the amenities and services. There’s an afternoon tea, a small pool, and a super charming cloister garden (available… > Read Our Full Review

The StateView Hotel

The StateView Hotel sits in a gorgeous green area of Southwest Raleigh and offers peace and relaxation but with easy access to lots of nearby activities. The location is one of the best parts, actually, the proximity to green spaces a nice way to experience how Raleigh is far more in touch with nature than most cities. The StateView itself is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, and so has more than a tinge of corporate. It’s also a bit bigger than most of our favorite hotels. If you want an… > Read Our Full Review

Aloft Hotel Asheville Downtown

A stay in Downtown Portland with easy insight into the city’s art scene, beer scene, and artisan craftspeople? Sign us up. Hotel Lucia is a boutique hotel that goes the extra mile to connect guests with the pulse of the city. In this case it means world-class food & drink, local handmade arts & crafts, and souvenirs. Hotel Lucia has partnerships with half a dozen local businesses in these fields. It’s been a hotel since 1909, and while nothing really feels 100+ years old, the hotel definitely has hints of… > Read Our Full Review

Aloft Durham Downtown

This Downtown Durham boutique hotel is just what you’d expect from the Aloft brand: clean, comfortable and easy. Like most chains, it’s not offering any kind of life-changing experience. Yet, among the local hotels, the sleek contemporary design and Marriott-level luxuries stand out. The building itself is a glass-and-metal box that sparkles and shines with reflection and refraction. The interior has twinges of the post-industrial, but the entire vibe is so colorful and sunny that it doesn’t feel quite like the minimalist factories that you’ll find in old mill towns…. > Read Our Full Review

Beau Rivage Golf & Resort

This private accommodation outside Wilmington, North Carolina is a golfer’s dream and, particularly good for groups, with spacious suites and almost every room able to sleep 2+ people. You definitely can just stay by the pool the whole time here, but in our opinion, it would be a little bit of a waste. The views from the rooms are lovely, looking over the greens and the pool. Prepare to be coaxed outside by fresh air and green space every morning. The 18-hole Beau Rivage golf course is one of the… > Read Our Full Review

Hotel Lela

It’s Hilton’s Tapestry Collection we have to thank for this edge-of-Wilmington, North Carolina, boutique hotel. To be honest, we’re not convinced that the strip-mall boutique works for anything but a retro-style motel, but we can’t deny Hilton’s clout, and its list of luxury amenities. From the front, it looks like if you’re not better off inside the hotel, you’d be better off in a car heading somewhere else. There’s nothing to herald you in but a few lines of trees around a parking lot. Inside things open up, though, twilight… > Read Our Full Review

Proximity Hotel

This eco-friendly hotel in Midtown Greensboro, North Carolina is a shining example of alternative takes on luxury accommodation. A fully independent offering made from recycled materials, there’s an old-meets-new vibe here that pretty much sums up the hotel’s entire thing. We’re talking old-school hospitality standards in a new space strapped into the latest in sustainable design. The building’s facade would look elegant in any century, featuring large, square windows with bold frames. It’s post-industrial without any actual industry. In many ways it’s the Greek art student from Common People of… > Read Our Full Review
