Rye Motor Inn, Portsmouth

Retro classic set along Seacoast New Hampshire’s favorite seaside cruisin’ route? What more can we ask for? This roadside inn was originally built in the 1950s – fully authentic from the outside, and going to authenticity on the inside. A 2021 full, but historically-sensitive, renovation ramped up the luxury. From the same local owner as Portsmouth’s Inn Downtown, it’s a nice balance between chic, retro, old, new and everything beachy. Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa

The initial approach might not feel super boutique hotel, but Whitefield, NH’s famous, sprawling compound keeps a leisurely kind of friendliness within its buttery yellow walls that we look for in our favorite boutiques. The building does look quite vast, but is quite manageable once the first impression wears off. Add in supremely cozy rooms, gourmet home cooking, and adventures all around, and you’ve got an idyllic vacation. It’s nothing mind-blowing, but there’s consistent quality all around and a restaurant open to the public that has both guests and locals coming back again and… > Read Our Full Review

The Inn Downtown

Tucked off a Portsmouth, NH side street among a small collection of cute clapboard houses, this hotel has a seriously residential vibe. The building was constructed in 1809, recently renovated into a 10-room boutique apart-hotel. It’s a super-charming federal-style work with an arched passageway through the center. We can easily imagine driving a little horse-drawn cart through it to the tiny green shared courtyard behind the hotel. The decor is modern but relaxed, full of crisp greens and soft, welcoming textiles. We’d say The Inn Downtown is more suited for… > Read Our Full Review
