One of a collection of luxury Swiss hotels, Widder Hotel in Zurich is one of their most openly historical. You’ll find worn stone, wooden beams, and painted walls that feel like a combination of museum and manor home. It’s hard to pin a vibe to the place, as each room and suite is unique. This is quite an achievement with almost 50 rooms to contend with. You’ve got the historical, sure, but they’ve also thrown in enough bold modernist touches, opulent textiles, and unique, non hotel-y layouts to make anyone… > Read Our Full Review

You’ve got a fine old, 17th-century, building, sturdy stone walls and decorated wooden beams to greet you at Hôtel Les Armures, in the heart of Old Town Geneva. Much of the aesthetic is historical, then, but you’ve got a nice balance of personality and practicality here. Crisp linens, high-quality furnishings, and plush, open-plan bathrooms make it difficult to feel like you’ve gone back in time – most of the time – but there’s kind of a timeless quality too. It’s more than the mix of period influences creates a sense… > Read Our Full Review

This dramatic looking, Lake Geneva-side boutique hotel is one of many stunning buildings on Geneva’s most prestigious street, Quai Wilson. Some of them give magical frou-frou palace, others king’s quarters vibes, while The Woodward swings, more simply; 20th century classic. We’re talking clean lines in white and beige, something that might feel boring somewhere else, but here complements the architecture beautifully. There are enough little touches of design to keep things more or less interesting. It’s also an all-suite establishment, with a small number of rooms in a pretty huge… > Read Our Full Review

Alma Hotel is a calming little boutique hotel in Zurich’s upscale Seefeld neighborhood. Women are the target audience, due to the ladies-only wellness space, but Alma is open to everyone. Toxic masculinity dies here, though, we’re sure. The colour choices alone will tai chi it tooth and nail. It has a classically feminine set of pastels, bright yet soft. And pale woods that give the feeling of a film set if Meredith Hayden went vegan. There is something on the edge of twee about it all, but it stays on… > Read Our Full Review

Helvetia Hotel’s bar, Helvti Bar, is an institution in District 4, Zurich. The hotel’s reputation followed on from that, a common enough story in hospitality. This was in the 1980s, though, before boutique hotels were even a thing. and so Helvita Zurich likely referred to itself as a design hotel, one of the very first, back in the day. It’s definitely still a design hotel today, and indeed has added Art Hotel to its schema. And its confidently trend-free decor is a step above the usual. The extensive art collection… > Read Our Full Review

Longemalle is a fresh, luxurious Geneva boutique hotel in a grand old mansion house worthy of a lakeside setting. It doesn’t have the lakeside setting though it does have the lake (and great lake views from the rooftop), and the lovely Jardin Anglais just up the street. It’s very much luxury hotel but just short of 5 star too. Both these factors make Longemalle’s rates, relatively speaking for Geneva, very reasonable. The building was completely renovated in 2019, and inside you have handsome, straightforward furnishings, and friendly, well trained staff…. > Read Our Full Review

Part of Ameron, a prestigious European boutique hotel chain, AMERON Zürich Bellerive au Lac brings dependable luxury to a dependable lakeside setting. We probably wouldn’t term this 1928 building an Art Deco masterpiece, but it’s definitely got historic charm. A prime location, right next to Zürichsee, sure doesn’t hurt either. Under the building facade’s slightly severe modern lines is some geometric carving that works nicely with a beautifully decorated interior. And it’s here that the style takes off. Rugs over parquet flooring are bold and eye-catching. A black, white, and… > Read Our Full Review

Hotel d’Angleterre is a lakeside stunner in the centre of Geneva, straight from the Golden Age of hotels. An 1872, Belle Epoque era, city landmark, it was acquired by the ever-reliable Red Carnation collection in 2001. Once inside the building, things look and feel a tad more contemporary, and a tad more intimate too, than you might expect. Hotels like this can too easily lean on words like stately, grand and historical, and end up feeling stuffy, almost claustrophobic. At Hotel d’Angleterre, you’ll find a much airier experience. The animal-print… > Read Our Full Review

Storchen pairs a classic building with more contemporary design (particularly the rooms), and the result is very chic accommodation on the banks of the River Limmat. So, right by the river then – this hotel really is at the heart of the city, and perfectly placed for waterside strolls. Local records first mention the house in 1357, and, despite the contemporary design, Storchen Zürich has the kind of grandness that only comes with being around for centuries. The service here is excellent, and the food at the restaurants is top-class…. > Read Our Full Review

If you’re looking for the ultimate Geneva boutique hotel experience, and therefore one with much grand history thrown in, this 1865 era landmark is hard to beat. Though it rose to fame as the Beau Rivage brand’s very first hotel, Geneva’s Beau-Rivage is, confusingly maybe, but long story short, currently independent, which we love. Though it’s really not like we’re looking at an underdog here. This is a hotel that’s devoted over 150 years to perfecting the art of hospitality, and they’re not afraid to show it. We’re talking real… > Read Our Full Review
