La Fantaisie

La Fantaisie, in Paris’ 9th, reimagines the luxury hotel experience through colourful interiors, floral motifs and playful design, choosing warmth and character over 5-star formality. Disguised by a relatively modest modern exterior, the interiors burst into pinks and florals, and intricate patterns grace each wall. It’s a bit on the girly side; something like the set an arthouse film director would create for a modern-day fairy tale. It’s also very much a 5-star hotel, though, and between lush gardens, a highly-rated onsite restaurant, and an indulgent spa, La Fantaisie provides… > Read Our Full Review

Le Grande Mazarin

Le Grand Mazarin in the 4th arrondissement embraces colour, pattern and Mediterranean warmth, and has a far more playful personality than most luxury hotels in Paris. It draws heavily from the Eastern Mediterranean, which shapes both its design and cuisine. Of course, there’s plenty of French Mediterranean too, but touches of Turkish and Italian add a cosmopolitan sense that’s fresh and likeable. Mostly, however, the hotel feels lush and luxurious. Which is a nice change, as most design-led hotel spaces tend towards the feminine. Colours are bold but not bright, leathers… > Read Our Full Review

St. James Paris

St. James Paris, in Paris’s 16th arrondissement, is, to our minds, the grandest boutique hotel in Paris. It’s a neoclassical chateau, built in 1892, with grand hallways, soaring ceilings, imperial staircases, walled gardens, the works. It started out as a private residence, before becoming student housing for the elites, then a gentlemen’s club, before its current incarnation as a terribly fancy hotel. The whole experience is like staying at a Loire Valley chateau, but in the middle of Paris. It has among its facilities one of the best hotel spas… > Read Our Full Review
