Hotel Malleberg is an eco-conscious, (Green Key Certification) Bruges boutique hotel run by a friendly local couple. The building is a historic Flemish townhouse, once home to the Surrealist painter Rachel Baes. The interiors are now of course modernised, the decor is pretty contemporary but the atmosphere and the aesthetic still feel suitably olde. The food is entirely plant-based at Hotel Malleberg, which may be, well, we’d hope not, but, off-putting to some. Regardless, their vegan breakfasts are so good we’d rate it as a very good place for the… > Read Our Full Review

The Notary Hotel is a 19th-century mansion in central Bruges with beautiful, surprisingly large gardens, and an oasis-like quality. It was the former home of a family of… notaries, which may not be the most romantic backstory, but it did leave behind some very pretty architecture. The decor leans a little more modern — or at least classic — but there’s still beautifully ornate throughout. There’s an on-site wellness programme too, which, along with the gardens and the calming atmosphere, makes The Notary a thoroughly relaxing place to be. … > Read Our Full Review

There’s plenty to be said about staying in the architectural delight that is the historic centre of Bruges, but many may find it a bit too jam-packed. b room offers bed and breakfast-type accommodation a bit off the beaten path. You’ll find it far more intimate, and more peaceful, than even the smallest boutique hotels in the centre. It’s a former broom factory, oddly enough, lovingly renovated by the present-day owners themselves. The exterior is lovely, with an ornate quality to the brickwork that’s a bit surprising for former industrial… > Read Our Full Review

Hotel Van Cleef, in Bruges’ Sint-Anna Quarter, is a highly regarded, luxury boutique hotel housed in a grand Italianate mansion. It offers just enough centrality for convenience while retaining the peaceful charm of a classic Bruges canal-side setting. With only 16 rooms, there’s a bright, snuggly atmosphere to the place but also plenty of modern design hotel flair, especially in the common areas. We’re talking printed wallpaper, hip little poufs, and some lovely architectural elements. The rooms aren’t quite as imaginative, but they’re decidedly comfortable and luxurious. What are… > Read Our Full Review

The Pand is a stylish canalside Bruges boutique hotel, and, if you don’t mind a smaller room, maybe the best value, luxury base you’ll find in town. It’s got character; the style is opulent without being too overdone. Antiques and period details give it most of the character, while modern amenities keep things comfortable. The building is a former carriage house, which has led some rooms to be on the small side. Spend a little more, and you’ll get more space, but all the rooms are warm and welcoming, even… > Read Our Full Review

Sophisticated, and carefully put-together, Hotel Fleur de Ville, Brussels, gives much comfort in a nicely romantic, historic atmosphere. It all feels mature and elegant, and remarkably very relaxing in the face of the downtown hubbub. The hotel is built into a 19th-century banking building, and the place feels thoroughly storied. It’s easy to imagine Brussels’ old elites discussing money among the secluded spaces here, and a lovely, sanctuary-esque feeling persists. Some rooms let in a bit more sound than they should; it’s a historic building after all, and though you… > Read Our Full Review
