URSO Hotel & Spa

A landmark that’s eye-catching from literally every angle, URSO’s building in Madrid alone is enough to warrant a stay. Get ready to wander grand staircases, then, and admire the exquisite stained-glass. You’ll even find some wall paintings that look like they could feature in the opening credits of White Lotus. And the So Fancy You Could Make Biting Social Satire About It vibes extend throughout URSO. There’s a lot of white and gold, contemporary opulence designed to complement the grand neoclassical architecture. It does it beautifully, if a bit predictably…. > Read Our Full Review

H10 Croma Málaga

A hyper-contemporary box of tiles in Malaga Centro, H10 Croma is a unique hotel worthy of the attention. H10 is a collection of European, typically Spanish, hotels, each with something just a bit special. This one is a series of impressive design choices, from the geometric tiles surrounding each balcony to the sustainability-friendly heat pumps. The outside could read too minimalist, but the rest of the hotel doesn’t hold to it. The walls are mostly white, sure, but other design elements have the texture, colour, and life of a renovated… > Read Our Full Review

Palacio Solecio

Palacio Solecio is a meticulously renovated 18th century palace in the heart of Malaga’s Old Town One for amateur historians, for sure, but we don’t think anyone else will have much in the way of complaints. The building’s legacy is absolutely worth diving into, but so are the marble bathrooms and signature cocktails. Buttery stone and gorgeous wrought iron welcome you into a cluster of romantic brick walls. These surround a breathtaking courtyard surrounded by elegant arcades where you can eat and drink to your heart’s content. Follow stairs up… > Read Our Full Review

CoolRooms Palacio de Atocha

We’d almost give our firstborn to change the name of CoolRooms Palacio de Atocha. It’s part of the CoolRooms, Spain-wide, chain of excellent, eco-friendly hotels, none of which are done justice by having crap names. And this Palacio Real-adjacent boutique hotel in the centre of Madrid, in particular. We’ll grudgingly admit, though, that its orange neon sign looks, well, cool. All that aside, CoolRooms’s ethos is infusing gorgeous landmark buildings with lush contemporary design. It’s done beautifully in most cases, but Palacio de Atocha is exemplary. The 1852 palace has… > Read Our Full Review

Eco Boutique Hostal Grau

Eco Boutique Hostal Grau is a unique, upscale, private room hostel right off La Rambla, and by Plaça Catalunya – pretty much the heart of downtown Barcelona. It’s a fun, relaxed place, but not at all a typical party/youth hostel. We mean, like, actually relaxed, with plenty of adult, and family-friendly vibes. There’s a post-industrial chic to the whole thing. We’re talking enough pastel paint, butcher block and monstera to open an Anthropologie. Yet, touches of grunge, sneaky floral tiles and plants everywhere, tone down the too-clean vibes. It all… > Read Our Full Review

Vinnci Larios Diez

In the grand tradition of European boutique hotels, Vinnci Larios Diez, Malaga, offers shiny new accommodation in a historic building. The exterior is stately and handsome, warm brick and stone only slightly undermined by the commercial spaces on either side of the entrance. This is what you get, though, in the heart of a tourist town. Marqués de Larios is a lively street lined with commercial space, perfect for downtown-lovers. If you’re looking for something more retreat-like, we’ve got other options. If you want to be at the heart of… > Read Our Full Review

BRACH Madrid

BRACH Madrid on Gran Via, is an iconic building on an iconic street. It’s all sweeping white stone covered in carvings and filled with luxury antiques. BRACH, of course, is a French brand, born in Paris, but slowly pushing rhizomes through the streets of Western Europe’s favourite capitals (next up: Rome). But, that’s not the only connection. This 1922 building was built over the house where Victor Hugo spent a brief spell as a child. BRACH Madrid is rich yet homey, as unpretentious as a 5-star hotel with a fabulous… > Read Our Full Review

Yurbban Trafalgar

Yurbban is a now-global boutique hotel brand, but it was born right here in Barcelona. Yurbban Trafalgar offers contemporary, minimalist chic at the intersection of Eixample, El Born, and Gothic Quarter. There are many well-loved Yurbban Hotels throughout the city and plenty to recommend at any of them. We love Trafalgar most though specifically for its location and its more forward-thinking approach, and social atmosphere. It’s one of just two Yurbbans with a sustainability certification. We like its bold, modern architecture, that gets noticed among the older Modernisme of L’Eixample…. > Read Our Full Review
