Carr Mansion

Galveston mightn’t always be known for its sophistication, but this intimate boutique in the city center has enough refined charm for all of Texas. The 1866 Greek revival mansion survived many a Galveston tragedy, spending most of the 20th century cycling through the hands of many a wanna-be hotelier. This latest iteration of the historic inn shows that practice makes perfect. The house, unsurprisingly, is lovely, but the way the interiors have been updated lends it that extra bit of upscale elegance. The colors are soft but not boring, the… > Read Our Full Review

Frame Hotel – Treehouse, Austin

Frame Hotel – Treehouse, formerly the Kimber Modern, is another suave boutique hotel right off Congress Avenue in Austin’s vibrant South Congress. We found the design sleek, colorful and modern but this Frame Hotel also offers some nice back to nature vibes. There are no treehouses here though, despite the name, but some wonderful old Texan Oaks in the courtyard were enough to inspire. The hotel has a very small number of rooms and, with no staff for most of the day (though they are just a phone call away),… > Read Our Full Review

Heywood Hotel

The Heywood is a small, stylish, boutique hotel hidden away in the hip Eastside of Austin. The house, an original Craftsman bungalow, dates back to 1925 and has been thoughtfully restored and modernized. With just seven rooms it sure is boutique, and we think you’ll find a cozy, friendly vibe throughout. Note there is no breakfast or, beyond snacks, any other meals provided though.   What are the rooms like? Room count: 7 bespoke rooms with individual features. Quality finishes: original longleaf pine floors, handmade beds, luxury mattresses. Comfort &… > Read Our Full Review

Wanderstay Boutique Hotel

Not the only Wanderstay in the city, this boutique hotel in Downtown Houston has both the relaxed vibes and the creature comforts to make it one of the city’s best. The first of the Wanderstay properties, a hostel, sits a bit further out of town. It’s a decent budget option but doesn’t have quite the charm of this chic boutique that opened in 2023. The building is a one-story, post-industrial vibe that could easily be a hip bike café if they ever decide to leave the hotel business. For now, however,… > Read Our Full Review

Sara’s Inn on the Boulevard

Small-scale anything in Houston is going to be at least a little bit of a challenge, which is what makes this intimate Inn in Houston Heights so appealing. Add to that a supremely charming, colorful house, and the appeal grows. Now add an easygoing residential area in one of the city’s coolest neighborhoods, and you can see why we’d highlight Sara’s Inn. The architecture is Victorian, and the house has been done up in the most 21st-century version of the term. Many parts look like a still from Autumn de… > Read Our Full Review
