Le Capitole Hotel, in the centre of Downtown Quebec, offers a bit of cultural immersion alongside top-class, relaxed pampering.
The 1901 era theatre and performance complex attached to the property brings Beaux-Arts architecture, and a busy program of productions
While many nearby buildings, including the theatre itself, stand as monuments to Art Deco or Beaux-Arts, Le Capitole has a more modern sensibility.
It has a nice collection of modern amenities, sleek rooms, great dining, and, all in all, offers some of the best pampering in the city.
What are the rooms like?
- Rooms: 108 modern rooms ranging from compact singles to large penthouse suites.
- Style: Clean whites and greys with wood accents and large windows.
- Comforts: Heated marble floors, robes, Nespresso machines, mini fridges, and workspaces.
- Best picks: Horizon rooms for views; King Single with Sofa Bed for space; Penthouse if you want it all.
- See each room in detail here.
Rooms are where Le Capitole leans particularly modern; done up in bright whites and unobtrusive grays.
We’re not completely in love, but the wood panelling is a nice touch and a floor-to-ceiling window can cover a multitude of sins.
Not that there’s a multitude of sins here, anyway.
Sure, we get up in our feelings about carpeting, but we’ve seen worse and that’s probably the most off-putting part of the decor.
The smallest offering are the 250 square foot King and Queen Singles, both with gorgeous views of Old Quebec.
We’re partial to the 400 square foot King Single with Sofa Bed, a nice option for both couples and groups.
We’re not sure we’d bother with a Suite if it weren’t for a deep love of soaking tubs, as there are no real improvements in decor.
Those who love space might appreciate the upgrade, however. The smallest suite is almost 700 square feet, the largest a 1500+ Penthouse with a tub, piano, balcony and more.
Whichever you choose, you’ll be well taken care of. Even the most basic rooms include heated marble floors, cosy robes, Nespresso Machines, TVs, mini fridges and a working area.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Dining: Two venues — Il Teatro (Italian, all-day dining) and Clubby Bar (cocktails, outdoor seating).
- Wellness: Heated pool, massage services, and a fitness centre with strong city views.
- Atmosphere: Lively common areas thanks to the onsite theatre crowds.
- Extras: Direct access to the historic theatre complex.
Two dining spots make for lively common areas.
One, Il Teatro, is tailor-made for pre-theatre dinner and drinks. It’s an Italian-inspired space with a decent range of options.
This, and being open for breakfast through dinner, makes it an excellent hotel restaurant. Food is enjoyable, if not mind-blowing.
If you wanted to try some of the city’s other culinary delights, we’d still recommend a cocktail at Clubby Bar.
It’s a fresh, chic space with outdoor seating.
Once you’re fed and watered, there’s a heated pool just waiting to help you relax.
Nearby, you’ll find a solid fitness centre. Both benefit from some exceptional views of the city.
Private massage sessions can take your entire trip to the next level.
Be sure to also check out Le Capitole, the adjacent historical theatre and performance space, while you’re at the hotel.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Downtown base: A vibrant part of Quebec City with theatres, restaurants, and nightlife.
- Walkable: Museums, parks, and Old Quebec all within easy distance.
- Scenic routes: Promenade towards the Citadelle and Old Port waterfront.
- Green spaces: Battlefields Park and Plains of Abraham accessible on foot.
The neighbourhood is pretty close to perfection.
It’s easy to go straight for an Old Port experience, but we wouldn’t want to overlook the area closer to Downtown.
Here you’ll find many of the same lovely small, brick buildings, and a lot more to do.
Looking past the multiple theatres in the very same building, you’ve got other museums and theatres within walking distance.
The Plains of Abraham Museum is perhaps the furthest, a 15-minute walk away.
Once there, you can check out Battlefields Park, an expansive green area studded with historical monuments.
You can head back towards the old city via the promenade past the Citadelle of Québec. And pass through Old Port’s atmospheric waterfront.
A Civilisation Museum visit and a wander around Basse-Ville too can be included in a perfect day of relaxed sightseeing.
