TL;DR
- Historic charm: Early 20th-century architecture with Le Germain’s modern boutique interiors.
- Luxury & comfort: Comfortable rooms, attentive staff, and solidly good food and drink.
- Prime location: Close to Quebec’s waterfront and top attractions.

Hotel Le Germain Quebec was one of the first of the Germain hotel chain’s Canadian boutiques, a 1997 renovation of a 1912 era building.
Thus, you’ve got old-style architectural glamour outside Le Germain Hotels’ contemporary interiors.
This includes clean lines and subtle colours, more connected to the stone of the building than any heritage.
And it’s fine; they both have charm. We’re not of the philosophy that all historical buildings need the complications of period furniture, but if you are, this won’t be for you.
Though for the contemporary style, we’ve got a couple of design notes, but the standard of luxury is on point, the staff excellent and the amenities solid.
What are the rooms like?
- Number of rooms: 60 elegantly designed spaces.
- Room styles: Classic, Signature, and Prestige options with varying layouts and sizes.
- Modern comforts: Rainfall showers, minibars, Nespresso machines, and plush robes.
- Design critique: Photomural headboards may divide opinion.
- See each room in detail here
Most of our design critique sits above the king, queen and double beds (depending on room type).
While we’re in general fans of the bits of whimsy Le Germain sneaks into their decor, this one doesn’t hit.
Not all rooms are like this, but we’d prefer you get a room without photomural headboards that would look at home in a viral Trading Spaces reveal.
Like, the kind that comes up on TikTok when your algorithm is based solely on snarky comment sections.
The rest is chic and cute, the black and white scheme is a bit harsh, in our opinion, but it’s classic for a reason.
Rooms start at 285 square feet Classics, which have all the different room types.
Couples or solo travellers can upgrade to Signature or Prestige. These feature king beds, better views, and up to 410 square feet of space.
Whatever you go for, there are plenty of things to keep you comfy and satisfied. All rooms feature rainfall showers, TVs, Bluetooth radios, mini bars, Nespresso machines, work areas, and plush robes.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Breakfast buffet: Served in the lounge; delivery available to rooms.
- Lounge & terrace: Cocktails, small plates, and pizzas in a bright, plant-filled space.
- Fitness & spa: Compact gym plus in-room massage options.
You’ll find a breakfast buffet in the lounge, not included in the room rate, but generally considered to be worth getting.
It’s especially nice if you like your breakfast in bed. They will deliver.
After 11, the lounge opens up for cocktails, small plates, and pizzas. It’s a nice place to grab a quick lunch, bright and sunny.
We’re especially enamoured by the many plants curling around the space; they connect nicely to the terrace, where you can enjoy fresh air in nice weather.
There’s a fitness room that will let you keep up your routine, though it might not encourage you to do so.
We’re happy to report that, lacking space for a spa, the hotel has organized in-room massages available for booking through the concierge.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?

As long as you like water, this Quebec City location is hard to beat.
Hotel Le Germain Quebec sits minutes from the St. Lawrence River, almost directly on the Place des Canotiers.
It’s the perfect spot for a morning walk, and there are paths that can take you all along the port up to the Naval Museum or down towards the Citadelle.
Once you hit the Citadelle of Québec, there’s a lovely promenade, and plenty of sightseeing around Battlefields Park, such as the Plains of Abraham Museum.
Basse Ville, walking distance from the hotel, is the spot for bites to eat and a bit of nightlife. It’s a small city, easy to navigate, and fun to explore.
If you have some extra time, a jaunt to Île d’Orléans is well worth the drive, especially if you stop by Montmorency Falls.
It’ll take 15 minutes from the hotel to the falls, then you just need to hop across the bridge and enjoy the island.
Here’s a nice guide to a few days well spent in Quebec City.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“What a great place to stay in Quebec. A beautifully presented hotel located close to the old quarter, restaurants & walks. There was a lounge to relax & make yourself a coffee. The room was well appointed , had a nespresso machine and big comfy bed.
The location was excellent with good access to attractions and dining . Finally excellent staff….”
“Reception staff were excellent, restaurant recommendations provided were appreciated and accurate. Breakfast was great value and varied each day. Availability of fresh water and free coffee was appreciated….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Single elevator was very slow….”
”My only thing I could think of was with a sleep apnea machine on either side of our bed we needed to run our cord over the back of the bed. So maybe an outlet on either side of the bed would help. However, this was just a minor problem!…”
