This handsome offering in Quebec City’s Old Port is a stately, refined option for those who like their hospitality simple and high-quality.
We think it might be the neoclassical architecture, but there is something a hair impersonal to the converted headquarters of Canada’s first French-speaking bank.
It’s the kind of impersonal that waits for you to add meaning, though, more pre-furnished luxury flat than cookie-cutter hotel.
Decor is homey, if nondescript, and common areas have high ceilings and plenty of comfortable furnishings.
Additionally, Hotel 71 belongs to the Preferred Hotels & Resorts group, ensuring world-class hospitality.
Amenities reflect this, and while you’re not going to be writing home about the gorgeous, unique decor, neither do we think you’ll be writing home with any complaints.
If you like your accommodation to define your stay, Hotel 71 might be somewhat underwhelming.
But it’s a top notch luxury hotel at very reasonable prices.
So if you need nothing more than a straightforward space to indulge yourself a bit, you won’t find much better in this price range.

- See each room in detail here
There’s plenty of variety in room type, starting at 200-square foot Classic options with queen beds.
You can pay a bit more for higher floors, and better views, which can turn this snug stay into something a bit more grand.
This is also where Hotel 71’s straightforward decor shines. A simple palette of tans and creams punctuated by rich colours doesn’t take up much space.
The wood flooring makes everything feel more personal without a need for clutter, and unique architectural details give a little bit of personality.
Superior and Deluxe options offer more space, options for king beds and some tub/shower combos.
Then we move onto Suites, which are still on the small side, but get the job done.
There’s still a lot of wood accents, which we love, and sofa beds in the seperate sitting areas.
If all of this is just Way Too Small, run right to the 1200 square foot penthouse with a view, and spend your time on the huge terrace.
Whatever you choose at Hotel 71, you’ll enjoy working areas, Nespresso machines, TVs, mini bars, lovely Italian showers, and high ceilings.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Common areas: High-ceiling lobby lounges with comfortable seating and curated wine dispenser.
- Dining: Onsite Italian restaurant serving dinner; espresso lounge for daytime drinks.
- Wellness: Gym with natural light and views—rare for boutique hotels in the Old Port.
- Business: Multiple meeting rooms with distinct character, ideal for work trips or events.
There are comfortably furnished common areas throughout Hotel 71 for you to relax in, including a chic lobby.
This space features a dispenser featuring top-notch wine selections. Again, a bit impersonal, but a thoughtful touch when there’s no lobby bar.
Connected to this is an espresso lounge perfect for a fancy morning coffee, and a small boutique where you can purchase the goods found in the rooms.
Breakfast isn’t included in the room rate at Hotel 71, and compared to the room rates, maybe not such good value.
You’ll find a whole bunch of good breakfast places within walking distance though.
The onsite restaurant is a dinner joint full of Italian delicacies, a nice change from the undeniable French-ness of the city.
The onsite gym has a view, which can be rare, and we appreciate a fitness area that doesn’t feel like an afterthought.
There’s a nice collection of meeting rooms with varying styles that make Hotel 71 a solid choice for business trips.
