This intimate hotel in Old Montreal is as cute n stylish as the name suggests.
Le Petit is a classic Old Montreal hotel with an old world façade and internal walls of exposed brick.
The rest of the vibe is relatively modern, with simple, minimalist furnishings that let the spaces breathe.
Thus, we have a timeless kind of fashionable woven throughout the hotel, that reflects the neighbourhood.
The locale is one of boutiques and galleries, Rue Saint-Paul is a really lovely place to be stepping out onto in the morning.
All in all, we’re looking at a comfortable stay in a lovely space, surrounded by creature comforts.
Everything is presented with an understated elegance that sits happily in the background of your experience, but won’t leave your memory anytime soon.
What are the rooms like?
• 28 rooms: Modern minimalist spaces with exposed brick and subtle luxury.
• Smart sizing: Simple S/M/L system makes choosing easy.
• Compact comfort: Each room has mini bars, Bluetooth speakers, and marble bathrooms.
• Spacious option: Large rooms include sitting areas and better views.
• See each room in detail here
Rooms have a luxury hostel kind of vibe, a mix of cool architectural bits and straightforward contemporary.
If only all hostels had marble bathrooms and mini fridges, eh?
We like those, yes, but we especially like the room types.
There are no fancy-sounding names here, just a simple S/M/L system that makes it easy to identify what you need.
Small is pretty small, at 220 square feet. The hotel itself warns couples that they’ll have a snuggly experience there, and they’re really best for single travellers.
Mediums are still under 300 square feet, but definitely more comfortable. The bed is a king here and there’s no so much of a Tetris vibe to the furnishings.
Finally, we come to Large rooms, which hover around 350 square feet, give or take. These include a king bed, a sitting area, and some of the better views in the hotel.
Whatever you choose, they’ve managed to squeeze Bluetooth speakers, mini bars, working areas and safes into each of the spaces.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
• Lobby café and bar: Breakfast, coffee, and wine in a cozy setting.
• Casual and easy: No full restaurant, just relaxed, open dining.
• Morning perks: Continental breakfast and complimentary coffee for guests.
• Fitness access: Guests can use a nearby gym via hotel partnership.
All the food and drink is contained in the lobby cafe; there’s no space for fancy closed-door dining halls at Le Petit.
Of course, if you want a reservation at some local Michelin-starred restaurant, the concierge will be happy to help you out.
In Le Petit Hotel, you have the lobby for your morning coffee and continental breakfast.
Either bring them up to your room or snuggle in the casual cafe space. Later you have coffee, tea and wine available all day.
There’s not much room for a gym at Le Petit either, but the hotel has a deal with a nearby centre for fitness buffs to go sweat.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
• Historic setting: Located on Rue Saint-Paul in the heart of Old Montreal.
• Waterfront close: Steps from Grand Quay and harbour parks.
• Cultural highlights: Walkable to Notre Dame, City Hall, and major museums.
• Easy access: 20 minutes by public transport to downtown and Mount Royal.
Any hotel in Old Montreal is going to have a great location, but this one is on the side of exceptional.
Le Petit Hotel hangs out on Rue Saint Paul, a super-chic part of the neighbourhood full of upscale shopping.
You’re super close to the water, just a couple of minutes from Grand Quay.
There’s a path that takes you all around the harbours, so you’ll have easy access to all the waterside parks and attractions.
If you prefer grander culture, head inlands towards Notre Dame de Montreal or Montreal City Hall.
We haven’t fully tested this, but the Museum of Archaeology and History is basically spitting distance from the hotel.
You are admittedly a bit far from the rest of the city, that is, the McGill and upper Downtown side of things.
It’s a half-hour walk towards those parts, which isn’t prohibitive, but we’d recommend saving your feet for Mount Royal Park and spending 20 minutes on public transport.
It’s a great place to wander for an afternoon, a mix of English garden, cemetery, and historic house rows.
Cultural offerings include the McCord Stewart Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Quartier des Spectacles.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
“Fantastic location, close to the dock which we needed to catch our cruise ship (walking distance) very good staff, facilities and breakfast, would definitely recommend it, and will stay again should we visit Montréal!…”
“We stayed at the sister location on Notre Dame, which had recently be remodeled. The location and room was very nice. It is more expensive than the accommodations would have warranted, which were nice. The breakfast was good with a good selection. Specialty coffees were always available in the lobby and made by experienced staff….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”Very tight bathroom and breakfast room with limited buffet….”
”Breakfast room could be quite crowded at peak times…..”
