Hotel Le Germain in Downtown Montreal is a bright modern take on boutique hotels that we’re happy to see growing.
The Quebecois Germain Hotel chain have been introducing Canada to sophisticated, contemporary accommodation since the 90s.
And this, their third hotel, remains one of their most eye-catching.
A building coated in colour and stripes welcomes guests to a super-chic, modern interior.
The crisp, minimalist-adjacent elegance of the lobby is the perfect foil to the on-the-edge-of-taste facade.
It adds maturity that might feel boring if you hadn’t entered from a doorway framed in pink and teal.
Instead, it’s closer to an air of lighthearted elegance.
Paired with excellent service and a location made for movers and shakers, this hotel promises a lively holiday.
What are the rooms like?
- 136 rooms: A large boutique property with a clean, contemporary aesthetic.
- Modern design: Neutral tones, wood panelling, and minimalist details throughout.

- Unique touches: Round bed option and transparent showers for the bold.
- Quality amenities: Nespresso machines, rainfall showers, yoga mats, and more.

Hotel le Germain is bigger than your average boutique hotel and so you have plenty of room options.
They all mirror the sophisticated but simple contemporary vibe of the lobby.
We’re talking a lot of neutral tones, the odd muted colour, plenty of wood panelling, and even rugs instead of carpeting.
Guestrooms come in Classic, Signature, and Prestige, with a combination of Queen and King Singles, Queen Doubles, and sofa bed options.
We’re a bit surprised that the lack of shower privacy isn’t noted on the website, so we’ll take a second to note that platonic friends with more traditional views on nudity might want to get separate rooms.
If you like something a little weird, there’s a Round Bed option that we find quite charming.
Suites either have a dining room or do not, though they do all have kitchenettes and bathtubs.
Whatever you choose, the amenities are top-quality. All rooms feature Nespresso machines, rainfall showers, HDTVs, working areas, cozy robes, and even a yoga mat on request.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- French-inspired dining: Le Boulevardier serves upscale brasserie dishes with a local twist.
- Elegant ambiance: Warm woods, low lighting, and a new terrace for street-side dining.
- Relaxed drinks: Flâneur Bar Lounge offers a chic spot for cocktails and conversation.
- Extra facilities: 24-hour gym, and flexible meeting and event spaces.
Onsite dining fills the lower levels with buttery leather, sultry lighting and some pretty gorgeous wooden touches.
Le Boulevardier is the main space at Hotel Le Germain, with a newly constructed terrace on street level, cordoned off with plants.
As you might imagine, the menu leans French. It’s brasserie-inspired, featuring local ingredients and a wine list designed to transport you across the Atlantic.
Unless you’re dealing with the most perfect weather ever imagined, we’d opt for inside.
The terrace comes off a bit forgettable, while the lush, low lighting of the dining room is infinitely cosy.
If you’d rather a couple drinks and a snack or two, there’s the Flâneur Bar Lounge.
It’s a marble bar surrounded by tawny woods and leathers, easily worth an hour or two of your time.
Beyond food and drink, you’ll have a 24-hour gym supporting your fitness goals. There are meeting and event rooms as well.
