The Pand is a stylish canalside Bruges boutique hotel, and, if you don’t mind a smaller room, maybe the best value, luxury base you’ll find in town.
It’s got character; the style is opulent without being too overdone. Antiques and period details give it most of the character, while modern amenities keep things comfortable.
The building is a former carriage house, which has led some rooms to be on the small side.
Spend a little more, and you’ll get more space, but all the rooms are warm and welcoming, even when they’re a little cosy.
And the common areas give you plenty of space to relax outside your room.
What are the rooms like?
- 26 rooms – from compact 15-square-metre Charming Rooms to larger Junior and Master Suites.
- Compact entry rooms – small, cosy entry-level rooms offer good value.
- Junior Suites – these add considerably more room, including a seating area and double sink.
- Family option – the Master Suite has a king-size bed and convertible twin sofas.
- Classic comforts – plush linens, minibars, air conditioning, TVs, and marble bathrooms as standard.

As we mentioned, base-level, or ‘Charming’ rooms at The Pand are a bit small, starting at 15 square metres.
This is a great option for a solo traveller, but a couple might want to grab the plus option, or go all the way to a Junior Suite.
These feature plenty of space, with a seating area and a double sink.
The Master Suite will serve a posh family, featuring one generous king-size bed and easily convertible twin sofas. It’s still on the smaller side for a luxury hotel, under 40 square metres.
Still, all the options are fairly solid in terms of amenities. Anything suited for more than two will have a double sink, and many bathroom options have both a bathtub and a separate shower.
Design varies, but it’s all the same level of soft, easygoing colours in patterns that make you think of a rich great-aunt who watches a lot of Antiques Roadshow.
All rooms feature plush linens, minibars, air con, TVs, and lovely marble bathrooms.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Private-house feel – lounges and common areas are designed more like elegant living spaces.
- Breakfast – hot dishes are cooked to order alongside a cold buffet, coffee, tea, and fruit juices.
- Sunny courtyard – breakfast can be enjoyed either in the intimate dining room or outside in the small courtyard.
- Cosy bar – mahogany, velvet, and leather create an inviting spot for afternoon tea, evening drinks, and snacks.
- Helpful service – an excellent concierge, 24-hour reception, and small business corner round out the facilities.
The Pand is supposed to feel like a private house, and it does well. Common areas feel more like living spaces than hotel premises, even if designed for more people than your typical living room.
It’s all a bit Austen-esque, like Mr. Bingley is getting ready to host a party of neighbours, but maybe that’s just the gorgeous spinet piano in the lounge.
Breakfast is served either in a small dining room or small courtyard, both airy and open to the sun.
They’ll prepare hot breakfast to order, with cold options set up in a buffet and supplemented by hot coffee and tea or fruit juices.
A tiny bar of rich mahogany and soft velvets sits in a leathery lounge, perfect for long, tea-filled afternoons or evening digestifs.
A small selection of snacks accompanies a respectable list of beverages.
Add to this an excellent concierge service, 24/7 reception and a small business corner, and you’ve got a hotel well-suited to make your stay in Bruges as comfortable as possible.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Right on Dijver – The Pand sits beside one of Bruges’ most atmospheric canals, just minutes from the historic centre.
- Major sights – the Belfry, Rozenhoedkaai, Fish Market, museums, shops, chocolate, and fries are all close by.
- Museums nearby – everything from the Witchcraft and Torture Museums to the art-filled BRUSK is easily reached on foot.
- Green spaces – Koningin Astridpark is around five minutes away, while Gentpoort gives access to canalside paths in about 10 minutes.
- Easy exploring – the location puts both tourist-heavy central Bruges and quieter residential neighbourhoods within walking distance.
It’s nigh impossible in Bruges to get more central than The Pand’s spot on the edge of the Dijver canal.
The Belfry is minutes away, on foot or by car, however you want to do it.
You’ll pass over a cute little bridge, or make a short detour to the iconic Rozenhoedkaai for a photo or two. A selection of vendors offers various wares next door, at the old Fish Market.
You’ll be surrounded by a myriad of small museums as well. The Witchcraft or Torture Museums are there for some eccentric tourism, leading towards the tourist-heavy Steenstraat quarter.
Here, you can hit the highlights, the shops, and get some chocolate and some fries.
The art-filled BRUSK is less than 5 minutes in the other direction, towards the quieter, more residential Magdalena quarter.
Here you’ll find the sweet Koningin Astridpark, a great place to let the children work off some energy. It’s only 5 minutes from the hotel.
If you’d prefer the parks around Kanal Gent-Brugge, it’s only a 10-minute walk to Gentpoort, which opens to the paths that circle the city centre.
