Hotel Van Cleef, in Bruges’ Sint-Anna Quarter, is a highly regarded, luxury boutique hotel housed in a grand Italianate mansion.
It offers just enough centrality for convenience while retaining the peaceful charm of a classic Bruges canal-side setting.
With only 16 rooms, there’s a bright, snuggly atmosphere to the place but also plenty of modern design hotel flair, especially in the common areas.
We’re talking printed wallpaper, hip little poufs, and some lovely architectural elements.
The rooms aren’t quite as imaginative, but they’re decidedly comfortable and luxurious.

Like we said before, Hotel Van Cleef’s rooms don’t have the same flair as the rest of the hotel.
Still, they’re nicely designed with clean lines, very spacious, and have everything you need in a room.
It’s soft, warm wood and the bathrooms, full of marble and patterning, are a major asset.
Their entry-level classic doubles are around 25 square metres, and have terraces and bathtubs.
Luxury options are terrace-less, but occupy the first floor, where the building is most authentic.
Suites hit 45 square metres, decked out in luxury linens and sporting sofa beds for extra guests.
They offer original architectural elements combined with even more designer decor, set up for luxury and even more space.

How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Quiet quarter – Sint-Anna is a more residential part of Bruges, with neighbourhood cafes, local beer spots, and a calmer atmosphere.
- Historic sights – the Jerusalem Church is around five minutes away, while the iconic Belfort is about a 10-minute walk.
- Walkable centre – museums, beer gardens, and the main sights of Bruges are easily reached on foot from the hotel.
- Canal walks – the nearby Kruispoort leads to green canal-side areas, with routes towards Langestraat and the Sint-Anna windmills.
- More tranquillity – the upscale Sint-Gillis Quarter is around 20 minutes away from the busiest parts of the centreç
Sint Anna Quarter itself offers a quieter, more residential respite from the tourist hub that is the centre of Bruges.
You’ll find neighbourhood cafes, places to try all of the local beers, and the very sweet Jerusalem Church, a more underrated attraction.
Of course, Hotel Van Cleef straddles both worlds, and actually sits on the edge of the bustly bit of the city. The Church may be a 5-minute walk, but the iconic Belfort is only 10.
Most of the centre will be as such. The many museums and beer gardens around the area are easily walkable, and even the rather upscale quiet of Sint-Gillis Quarter won’t be more than 20 minutes away.
The closest city gate will be the well-preserved Kruispoort, only 10 minutes on foot, which opens up a small area of green along the canal.
You can follow this along the canal to picturesque Langestraat, or up towards the windmills at the top of Sint-Anna.
