TL;DR
- Art Nouveau charm – a lovingly maintained 1906 townhouse with beautiful period character in chic Ixelles.
- Guesthouse hospitality – attentive hosts and a warm, personal atmosphere.
- Spacious rooms – individually designed rooms start at 30 square metres, with some offering tubs, balconies and terraces.
- Great neighbourhood – peaceful Ixelles puts the ponds and Avenue Louise within easy reach, though the city centre is a little further away.
- Overall – a characterful Brussels stay for travellers who value architecture, hospitality and neighbourhood atmosphere over centrality and extensive facilities.
In chic Ixelles, between Louise and Brussels City Centre, Maison Flagey occupies a gorgeous 1906 Art Nouveau building.
The house feels right at home in the neighbourhood, celebrated for its architecture and grandeur.
The hosts seem immensely proud of the space and dedicated to making sure guests enjoy it.
There’s no spa or fancy-pants restaurant here – just good, old-fashioned guesthouse hospitality.
It’s not central here, so if it’s your first time in Brussels and you want easy access to the sights, then we’d recommend you somewhere else.
But we just love the location; the lovely Ixelles Ponds is right beside you, and the chic Avenue Louise stretches out to your west.
Maison Flagey graces one of Brussels most elegant neighbourhoods, and vice versa, you might say.

Each room at Maison Flagey is uniquely and lovingly designed.
It’s not historical, persay, but there’s a classic elegance to each space that feels very at home within the architecture.
Attractive furniture abounds, simply organized with soft, relaxing colour schemes.
There’s also plenty of space. The smallest room measures 30 square metres, making it easy for all rooms to boast luxurious king beds.
From there, variety encapsulates delightful soaking tubs, dressing rooms, balconies, and two different terraces, one with daybeds made for sunny days.
If you want views, try the Green Room, for extra space and historical charm, opt for the Royal Suite.
Still, if either is already booked, no need to change your dates; we don’t think you’ll suffer in an alternative.
You’ll still enjoy comfortable seating perfect for a morning with the in-room Nespresso machine, a mini fridge, and a dressing room.
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Breakfast only – the hotel provides breakfast downstairs, while the common areas remain open throughout the day.
- Relaxed spaces – the tasteful living areas are best suited to coffee, wine and quiet downtime rather than socialising.
- Business facilities – guests can request business essentials and use meeting areas when needed.
- Outdoor exercise – nearby ponds provide running paths and circuits, making up for the lack of a gym.
Once you’ve finished the first coffee, head downstairs for breakfast.
It’s the only meal provided at Maison Flagey, but the tasteful common area is open all day for whatever kind of relaxing you need.
There are business essentials you can request and meeting areas in the hotel.
The living room has been known for the odd event, but it’s not regular, and if you wanted a lively area where you can socialise, we’d probably send you somewhere else.
Here, the common areas are best for cups of coffee, lazy glasses of wine, and the like.
The hotel facilities basically end there, but your hosts are happy to connect you with the many opportunities to relax and explore out in the city.
Who wants a treadmill when there’s a running path around the nearby ponds, connecting you to other circuits in the city?
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Ixelles Ponds – the charming ponds beside the hotel provide an easy escape for walks and outdoor exercise.
- Avenue Louise – Brussels’ upscale shopping boulevard is close by, with cafés, restaurants and nightlife along the way.
- City access – public transport gets you to Parc de Bruxelles in around 20 minutes, though walking into the centre takes longer.
- EU quarter – the Leopold Quarter is easily accessible by public transport for visitors interested in Brussels’ European institutions.
Beyond the obvious, perfect-for-a-stroll Ixelles Ponds right next to the hotel, there’s plenty to casually enjoy nearby.
A walk around the block just to see the architecture is plenty enjoyable, especially paired with a visit to one of Ixelles’ many cute cafés.
Or, head straight to Avenue Louise and get your shopping on. Then maybe return in the evening for some upscale nightlife.
Proximity to Avenue Louise also means an easy way into the centre of the city. The ride to Parc de Bruxelles is an easy 20 minutes with public transport, and a super-quick drive.
Walking isn’t so easy, so if you like to see entire cities on foot, either bring your walking shoes or stay closer to the centre.
Still, it’s a simple trip into Brussels to visit many museums and cultural sites.
Anyone interested in the EU side of things can very easily get to the Leopold Quarter via public transport.
The walk will take about half an hour from Maison Flagey.
