TL;DR
- Historic elegance – a sophisticated Brussels boutique hotel set inside a 19th-century banking building, with a romantic old-world atmosphere.
- Peaceful sanctuary – despite its downtown location, the hotel feels calm and secluded.
- Beautiful rooms – 51 rooms and suites combine historic character, dark wood, distinctive prints, and elegant contemporary comforts.
- Relaxed luxury – a lovely lounge, bar, restaurant, and fitness centre provide the essentials without turning the hotel into a full resort.
- Central location – tucked into Brussels’ Pentagon, within easy walking distance of the Grand Place, museums, shopping, opera, and major transport.
Sophisticated, and carefully put-together, Hotel Fleur de Ville, Brussels, gives much comfort in a nicely romantic, historic atmosphere.
It all feels mature and elegant, and remarkably very relaxing in the face of the downtown hubbub.
The hotel is built into a 19th-century banking building, and the place feels thoroughly storied.
It’s easy to imagine Brussels’ old elites discussing money among the secluded spaces here, and a lovely, sanctuary-esque feeling persists.
Some rooms let in a bit more sound than they should; it’s a historic building after all, and though you do have a small restaurant, that’s about it for the facilities.
But that’s about it also for the negatives; we will always love Fleur de Ville for its old school European aesthetic and romantic, sophisticated atmosphere.
What are the rooms like?
- 51 rooms – rooms and suites range from around 20 square metres for Bluebell Rooms to larger Junior Suites and more spacious suites.
- Flower names – categories such as Bluebell, Lily, Iris, and Orchid reflect the hotel’s refined aesthetic.
- Historic character – suites feature unique prints, dark wood moulding, armchairs, fireplaces, and plenty of old-world charm.
- Modern comforts – all rooms have air-conditioning, comfortable bathrooms, Netflix-equipped TVs, and minibars.
- Upgrade – the Deluxe rooms and suites add terraces, lounge areas, fireplaces, bathtubs, and extra space.

Room categories at Fleur de Ville are named after flowers, of course.
Bluebell Rooms are, surprisingly, not blue. Rather, they draw on the flower’s simplicity, tranquil and with views out towards the courtyard.
They’re in the 20 square metre range, but happily support king mattresses.
Lily rooms are height and elegance, Iris rooms street side with real historical touches.
They both approach 30 square metres.
Junior Suites are orchids, all curved walls and graceful lines. They’re the largest simpler option, around 34 square metres.
Now, over to the Suites, historically named and decked out in classic elegance.
They’ve got old-world charm in spades with the odd bit of new-world upholstery to mix things up a bit.
We’re talking unique prints, squishy armchair, and gorgeous dark wood moulding.
All rooms are air-conditioned, sporting comfortable bathrooms, Netflix-equipped TVs, and minibars.
In general if you can afford we’d recommend an upgrade to the Deluxe Category of room or any of the suites at Fleur de Ville.
The latter feature terraces, lounge areas, decorative marble or stone fireplaces (which you can’t light, sadly!), bathtubs, and smartly furnished, extra space.
What are prices like?
And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- Breakfast – a delightful buffet served in the beautifully decorated lounge, with a wide variety of high-quality delicacies.
- Lounge & bar – a stylish reading nook, complimentary tea and coffee, and cocktails make this a particularly pleasant space to relax.
- Fitness centre – a relatively new facility provides space for basic workouts, though guests have found it inadequate.
- Restaurant – the hotel offers a good dinner option, while Brussels’ many fine-dining restaurants are easily reached on foot.
- Atmosphere – the real appeal is the romantic historical decor, which carries consistently through the hotel’s shared spaces.
Breakfast is served in the Hotel Fleur de Ville’s lounge, quite near the hotel bar, which opens after breakfast service.
It’s a delightful buffet, well-stocked with delicacies sure to start your morning off right.
Once the bar opens, there’s the opportunity for complimentary tea and coffee. Both go wonderfully with the beautifully decorated lounge and stunning reading nook.
Also great in the lounge are cocktails from the hotel bar, the perfect option for an afternoon treat or a pre-dinner beverage.
The rest is very boutique hotel, that is, remember it’s not a 5-star resort. A relatively new fitness centre provides a small space for just basic workouts.
The hotel restaurant offers a great dinner, but it’s not the focus of the experience. There’s no celebrity chef nor Michelin star, and room service is a no-go.
This is less criticism of the hotel than a note on its location. Anyone looking for fine dining can easily find many top-notch options within walking distance.
The real magic here is the decor and the spirit of the place; all spaces lean toward the same historical design and decor that make Hotel Fleur de Ville a particularly romantic choice among Brussels boutique hotels.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- City centre – Fleur de Ville sits in Brussels’ Pentagon, putting the city’s major sights, museums, parks, and shopping close at hand.
- Historic sights – the Grand Place and St Michael & St Gudula Cathedral are both less than a 10-minute walk away.
- Culture – La Monnaie – De Munt Opera House and the Théâtre du Vaudeville are just two minutes from the hotel.
- Transport – Gare Centrale is around a 10-minute walk away, while De Brouckere metro station provides easy access around Brussels.
- Beyond the centre – Quartier des Quais, Avenue Louise, and Quartier Leopold offer everything from hip neighbourhoods to upscale shopping and EU attractions.
You’re in the Pentagon area of Brussels at Fleur de Ville, the heart, though not quite the tourist heart maybe, of the city.
Shopping is dotted throughout, as are cultural buildings. The lovely La Monnaie – De Munt Opera House and the Théâtre du Vaudeville are both located a two minutes from Hotel Fleur de Ville.
It’s less tourist-y around here though, a bit removed from the bustle of the Grand Place or St Michael & St Gudula Cathedral.
Still, it’ll take under 10 minutes to walk to either of those standard tourist locations.
In the other direction you can find the Cirque Royal, the Colonne du Congrès, and the rather hip Quartier des Quais.
Transport of any kind will be a breeze, both inter and intra city, with Brussels’ Gare Centrale a 10-minute walk.
