The Leo Grand is a gorgeous boutique hotel in Vienna’s Old Town that really likes to please.
Irrelevant sidetrack but the hotel’s website marketing is kind of a hoot. We’re suspecting some aging millennials are involved.
They say things like ‘The First District in Vienna has never looked this sexy’ (yes, it has) and ‘WHO THE F*** IS LEO?’ in there.
So, that doesn’t please, but anyway, now that that’s out of the way, Leo Grand seems fond of pink and gives some big diva energy (yaas kween? Did we do that right?).
Like, this is where Lady Bunny would stay if she were starring in Lady Magnesia at the Theater an der Wien.
Despite, or maybe because of, the image that conjures, we find the Leo Grand a notably sophisticated hotel.
Everything just sits nicely on the right side of twee and is all beautifully plush.
It’s the kind of place you’d want to see yourself in before an evening at, say, the opera house.
There’s lots to see and do in Vienna. You, and many other sophisticates can make a fine base out of this hotel.
But that’s not really the vibe we’re getting from it, with its baroque building, giant chandelier in the bar and extended breakfast hours.
No, the Leo Grand seems more the perfect spot for lounging on velvet chairs and gesturing for more champagne.
What are the rooms like?
- 76 rooms: A wide range of categories from cosy kings to sprawling attic suites.
- Opulent style: Quilted headboards, velvet touches, wood beams, and soft pink-blue palettes.
- Top amenities: Rain showers, king beds, fireplaces, minibars, coffee machines, and Smart TVs as standard.

There are many different room types here, so see which one fits you best, and go for it. We don’t think you’ll have to compromise.
Leo Grand’s most simple are fairly spacious 22 metres stuffed with quilted headboards, voluminous curtains, at least one cushiony chair, and a fireplace.
Royal options are similar, darling attic rooms with even more space.
From there rooms get bigger and bigger, more and more stuffed with couches and touches of velvet.
Grand Royals are easily our favourites, super-spacious attic options with gorgeous wood beams and sunlight streaming through slanted windows.
The Leopold Suite is the real kicker, also sporting gorgeous wood beams, but this time with a lofted bath area with views of the cathedral.
Decor is definitely opulent, but here intricate patterns are set against white, tempered with soft pinks and blues.
They’re not ostentatious, though they definitely catch the eye.
And amenities are superb. Even the most basic rooms include rain showers, king beds, coffee machines, minibars, fireplaces, and Smart TVs.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
- All-day lounging: Restaurant, velvet-clad bar, and a charming open-air patio.
- Late breakfast: Viennese classics, frizzante, and coffee served until noon.
- Atmospheric bar: Le Fou pairs crimson lighting with classic cocktails.
- Helpful concierge: Spa bookings, opera tickets, and more arranged on request.
The goal at the Leo Grand is pretty clearly to eat, drink, lounge, and enjoy.
You mostly see this in the on-site facilities. They’re relatively limited to an excellent restaurant, a superb bar, and a darling patio.
Of course, the super-friendly concierge stays ready to organise any other services.
Talk to the desk for spa appointments, salon treatments, opera tickets, or anything else that strikes your fancy.
Breakfast is served 7-12, which we love. It’s got Viennese classics and other breakfast goodies, plenty of coffee, and frizzante right there on the menu.
On good days, you’ll be able to eat on an open patio in the fresh air.
On not-as-good days, they can close the roof, and you end up in a sort of otherworldly space full of food and greenery with softly glowing lamps and low light filtering through the ceiling.
At night, head to Le Fou, the Parisian-inspired hotel bar where you sink into velvet chairs and sip classic cocktails under warm crimson lighting.
How is the neighbourhood? Anything interesting nearby?
- Old Town setting: Located in Innere Stadt, Vienna’s historic and touristic core.
- Major sights: Walk to Stephansplatz, the State Opera, Hofburg, and Albertina.
- Easy transport: Close to U-Bahn links and Wien Mitte-Landstraße station.
- Architectural charm: Surrounded by statues, grand buildings, and cultural landmarks.
As a tourist, Innere Stadt, Vienna’s Old Town, is the easiest part of the city to enjoy.
You’ll be walking distance from so many tourist highlights, and Stephansplatz is just around the corner to connect you to anywhere non-central.
It’s also just a nice place to walk around, check out the many statues, and enjoy the city’s stunning architecture.
Albertina’s artworks are less than ten minutes walking, as are the State Opera, the Hofburg, and the Imperial Treasury.
Just a little bit outside the main area, you’ll find St. Charles’s Church and the university campus.
The Wien Mitte-Landstraße lies just 15 minutes from the hotel, making transport outside of the city incredibly easy.
The only challenge will be finding some roads less travelled, but with a U-Bahn station in spitting distance, we don’t think it will be hard to overcome.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?

“Our new favorite hotel in Vienna – they really make you feel special, the facilities are fantastic, and the rooms are big and nicely laid out. A real gem – a nice bottle of wine waiting in the room….”
“Everything was wonderful, right from the reception staff always being helpful, the decor of the place, there were complimentary refreshments in the lounge for guests every evening (some nice wine and Prosecco), the room was wonderfully decorated and cleaned, the toilet was great (we love a bidet!), location was very central….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”The bar was separate from the hotel….”
